Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Show/Hide expession in UX Tab Control

I have an Accordion style Tab Control with 3 Tab Panes in a panel card, each containing a List Control and I want to hide any of the Tab Panes if the associated list is empty (returns no rows).

I tried a Show/Hide expression in the Tab Pane testing the List Control for "" but was not surprised when it didn't work

I am not sure where to start looking to make this happen, somewhere between client and server side scripting I suppose.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

What exactly is the expression for the Tab pane you are using for the Show/Hide?

      Hi Keith,

      Thanks for responding

I was testing the list control in the tab pane show/hide
      For example List1 != ""
It didn't really make any sense at the time although I am not sure how to check that no rows were retuned by the list control so I could set the condition true or false.

The objective was to hide the accordion control if there were no entries in the list

Which means you would need to get a count of the records that you would have expected to see if there were any.

If count > 0 show tab pane.

Not sure how to advise you how to do that at the moment.

I suppose we need to use java script and get a pointer to the list object
          Something like
          var listObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST1');
And then use listobj to get the count for true or false value

            Hi Steve,

Perhaps this should be another question in this forum, "How to get count of records in List Control?"

Another alternative is to count the records directly in the table, with the same filter as the List Control.

Steve - This can be very tricky (timing-wise) depending on how you are loading your List controls. What method are you using to load the data? You can use this._rData.length to get the row count inside any of the List Control events. I know there have been some enhancements made in build 1755 to make this a little easier.

                Thanks Dave,
We've only been working with Alpha for a few months
I suppose the issue here is that it looks like the accordion is rendered on the loading of the panel and Therefor the decision on when to count the records has to occur earlier. There are only a few records in each of the lists perhaps 4 or 5 in each of the three.
Is the this._rData.length a method of the list control object, if not how do I access ?

                  Perhaps you're right Keith.
I think Dave in another reply has highlighted a timing issue which may be an underlying problem with what I am trying to do. Maybe I need to populate three hidden fields at the start of the panel and use a call back to do a SQL count to get the totals of each.

I've done this with Visual Basic before now but not sure where to start in Alpha maybe an Xbasic function is the starting point. Any ideas?

Re: Show/Hide expession in UX Tab Control

Are you using the SQL Data Source Type to populate the data in your List control(s)? If so, there is an optional Server side afterQuery event you can use to check the count of records. More importantly, you can return some Javascript here and call a method or methods to modify your accordion and List controls.

this._rData.length is a variable which is available in any of the List Control Javascript events. When you open the List Control builder and click on the List Properties tab, there are events listed under Javascript - Render Time. I have used OnListDraw before and added Javascript to check the value of the variable this._rData.length to see if it was equal to zero. If so, I display some text in a Panel Overlay container so it appears on top of the List Control telling the user the list is empty.
