Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    JQuery to hide submit button in grid

    I have a dialog with a couple embedded grids. I have a button I use to save all changes to all grids. I want to hide the submit button for each grid and am trying to use this jquery function to accomplish it. Is there something I need to add to redesignate $ for jquery? Right now firebug is telling me this is not a function.

    Should this work?

    $("SALESTRAFFIC_SALESTRAFFIC.GRID_PART.SUBMITBUTTON_BOTTOM").hide();

    I am placing this in the ongridrender client side event.

    You need to use noConfict in order for jQuery and Alpha to work together. Have a look here... http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.noConflict/

    You could put this in your a5w page, after you load an jQuery libs you're using.

    <script> if(typeof jQuery != 'undefined') jQuery.noConflict();</script>

    Then, any jQuery calls you make will start with jQuery instead of $

      Thanks Dave,

      So I can leave my code as I have it in my client side event withe code snippet you provided that handles the noconflict?

          Re: JQuery to hide submit button in grid

          Let me change my mind on this one. Take out the noConflict stuff... you don't really need it if you're not loading and executing any jQuery code directly in an a5w page.

          Alpha is loading the jQuery libraries for you... and... executing the noConflict code... so you don't have to worry about that stuff.

          All you want to do is hide a Grid Submit button... and you'd think that's be easy... and it is... kinda... and there are two ways to accomplish this.

          You haven't said why you want to use jQuery... but so be it. In the jQuery docs they say it's the same as setting display="none"... and it is... so you could do that.

          Code:
          $("SALESTRAFFIC_SALESTRAFFIC.GRID_PART.SUBMITBUTTON_BOTTOM").style.display="none";
          Which actually should be written with the Component Placeholder so you don't get messed up at some point...

          Code:
          $("{Grid.ComponentName}.GRID_PART.SUBMITBUTTON_BOTTOM").style.display="none";
          That will hide your button.

          If you really want to use jQuery you can... but it's a bit tougher... because .hide() only works on DIVs. I think I have that right... and my tests bear this out. And your button ain't sittin' in a DIV. But you can place a DIV around it.

          Go into your Grid Properties, into Custom Grid Toolbar Template... select the appropriate "Read-only" or "Editable" radio button choice, and click Insert default template.

          Then find your button and put a DIV around it... like...

          Code:
          <div id="mysubmit">
          	{grid.grid_part.submitbuttons}
          </div>
          Now... in your onGridRender code you can say...

          Code:
          jQuery( "#mysubmit" ).hide();
          Notice that you have to use the "longhand" version of calling jQuery... not the "$" shorthand notation. Alpha uses $ for it's own JS libraries... so you can't use it here. Since Alpha is already setting jQuery.noConflict() automatically, then you can use "jQuery" to reference jQuery stuff.

          And... you also have to use the hashtag as well.

          I think that's it.

            Thanks David,

            I found the jquery hide() function while searching and didn't look at the documentation enough. Did not realize it would only work with div's. I was just looking for a quick/easy solution. Thanks for spelling all this out. I really need to become more proficient with javascript stat.

              Dave,

              How did you figure out what the component placeholder is to reach your conclusion?

              $("{Grid.ComponentName}.GRID_PART.SUBMITBUTTON_BOTTOM").style.display="none"; works great as you said it would

                Re: JQuery to hide submit button in grid

                Yeah... I have to say I was a little surprised about the DIV thing. Maybe it does work with other tags... but not input and button id's.

                When running under LivePreview etc. the grid alias name is GRID1 etc. That name gets used to ID the grid at runtime.
                When published... by default, the alias name is part, or all, of your saved grid name. You never know what it's going to resolve to until to look at it rendered.

                You could then write code to hide buttons... as you're doing... because you know your button ID is "SALESTRAFFIC_SALESTRAFFIC.GRID_PART.SUBMITBUTTON_BOTTOM"

                But... what if you change the saved name of your Grid? Your code would fail because you're rendered Button id is now something else.

                Using the {Grid.ComponentName} placeholder, Alpha takes whatever it's going to use as an Alias name and replaces {Grid.ComponentName} with it. Doesn't matter what your Grid is named now.

                That's a long version of the docs in the Insert Placeholders link for {Grid.ComponentName}.
