There could be any number of things that are wrong here. I don't think there is enough detail in the question for us to determine the issue.
But here's some general things to check/consider:
1. For a read-only grid, alter the select statement for the data source to return that data you want or to return blank/null under given condition instead of having the Web Application Server or Client Browser format the data.
a) If using SQL, use a CASE statement in your SELECT statement to return column contents or blank/null/hard-coded value when given condition is met. see: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../ms181765.aspx
b) If using DBF then perhaps a runtime calculated field?

2. Or, for read-only grid use "Display Settings / Conditional Style" (Server-Side). Add a condition like:
Condition: Eventtype <> "2"
Style: Display:none;
The control still gets sent down to the client, but the client browser sees the "Display:none" attribute and renders nothing for that control.

3. Watch out for data types when writing your expressions! For client-side expressions you will be working with character data, even if the underlying db data is numeric. You may have to include a data type conversion call in your xbasic/javascript expression. For the server-side expression you might be better off using "Eventype <> 2" (without the two being enclosed in quotes), if Eventype is numeric.

4. If this were an updateable grid then you'd want to use a "Client Side Properties / Show-Hide Expression", but client-side response can drastically slow if very many client-side expressions are used.

5. Make sure the field you are testing [Eventtype] is included in your grid. If you don't want it displayed in the grid then add it as a "Hidden" type field AND checkmark the "Column Properties / Hide Column" property.

6. If using client-side expressions and things don't seem to work then use Firefox with the Firebug add-in turned on and look in the Console message area of Firebug for script errors. Many times there will be an error in the Javascript because a field was not included in the grid or a field name was spelled wrong.

I tried it but no luck. I am actually trying to have the column hidden when the field value in Eventtype is 1 and display if the value is 2.

The column just don't respond to the expression

The show/hide expression shows the column if the expression evaluates to true and hides it if it's false. I think you're thinking of it just opposite. Try just using:

Eventtype<>"1"

Hi,

I have a read only grid which displays the records from another updateable grid.

I have multiple columns in the read only grid which does display the values correctly etc.

I want to "hide" some columns on the read only grid based on a value in one of the fields displayed/saved in the same grid. Using the show/hide expression does not hide the column in the grid [there is no detail view or search view]

Column layout:
Eventtype with possible values 1,2 or 3
PrimaryClass column with no values
SecondaryClass column with OR1 value

show/hide expression used on SecondaryClass column to hide: if(Eventtype ="1", true,false)
Obviously if the Eventtype value changes to "2" then the SecondaryClass column must show in the grid

PLSE, I feel sheepish enough already, so assist me with the proposed method to do this or WHY my current method is not working.
