Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Login User Registration does NOT enable user to login immediately

    Hi,

I have a web application with a "create user" dialog on it. The normal login functions work great and I have no issues with it. The "create user" function DOES successfully create the user BUT I have to "import" the new user 1st from the web security screen BEFORE the user can actually log into the application.

Why is the username and password not available immediately for normal login and how do I fix this?

Re: Login User Registration does NOT enable user to login immediately

are your security tables active link to tables in your db? I think it is clear that you are not actually writing information to your security tables otherwise you woudl not have to "Import". Find out what is not there, then work to fix that. Hope that helps.

        Hi Charles,

No, the tables are not actively linked to SQL. I am using the standard A5 security method.

That would be why, i believe the server application refreshes the log in tables every 15 minutes.

i think that timing can be changed but it is still not immediate, only way i know of would be using SQL

then again i could be completely wrong here XD

              Cornelius,

SQL has nothing to do with security unless you specifically and purposely configured your application to use SQL for security. If you have not purposely done this, then your application is using default DBF-based as security. You didn't say your application was using DBF or SQL anyway. I think Edgar's comment about 'refreshing the log' might be about session timeout, but cannot be about security EDIT: unless you are using Alpha Five Developer as the web host, and not the full web application server. If using Developer, then it does "die" every 15 minutes and need to be restarted.

Running the Import from Web Security -Users and Groups (if that is what you are doing) brings over security from DBF-based security (not SQL) from which ever Profile location you select. The Profile is most likely Localhost. If Importing makes it work, then I suspect you are using the Alpha Five Developer as your "server:" and not the full web application server, but you didn't provide enough information for me to tell.

Re: Login User Registration does NOT enable user to login immediately

Yeah steves so right, I was writing a response in a way that could affect me, I have my sql tables linked so anything I update in mysql shows up in both places and vice versa. I was thinking that you may have set it up that way and something went wrong there.

But one things for sure, the data on your form is not creating an active user by entering the information into a table that your app is using to determine ID
Like Steve said, if your "importing" then the info must be being captured correctly just not into the same table that is being used for authentication!

Good Luck hope I did not lead you too far down the wrong path!
I know just enough to be dangerous~!

Hi Charles, on the contrary, you're just opening my thoughts to what can happen.

                  Steve,
I am using SQL as the backend, just not for security. I have not created the security tables in sql as yet.

Should I do that to ensure the "newly created" user to be able to login directly after "registering him/herself on the web login page?

Like I said, whether you are or are not using SQL for security has nothing to do with it. Please tell us exactly how you are configured. Are you using the full web application server? Are you running your web application on a remote web server or your local machine? What do you mean when you say Import in first post, etc. Make a video if you can.
