Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

UX image upload with thumbnails problem/may be a bug

Have a repeating section with 2 fields both are varchar255 to store the image source and the corresponding thumbnail, when testing both files are created on the correct directory with the correct extensions, but my image source gets populated while the thumbnail is not. Could it be that thumbnails must be a blob? Any ideas?

Added a blob and configured a new thumbnail for it, same results, the main image was uploaded, the varchar for the first thumbnail was not updated, but the file was uploaded and for the blob, nothing, nada, no data, field was not updated and since it is a blob picture was not uploaded to the database.

It's not that there's an issue with generating thumbnails... it's that there's an issue with generating thumbnails utilizing a session variable in the transformation expression.

The thumbnail transformation expression is a little bit different. Try... note the + sign.

        Code:
        session.showcase+"/<ShortFilename>"
I've reported it. That was a good one.

Tried it and it still did not work. :( check out the screen captures below, again that does not explain why the blob would not be updated since it does not need the transformation expression.

Here's a video taking you through my setup. It works here for the image and thumbnail. I'm not addressing the blob because that's not your original issue.

I would try setting a static path to your thumbnail to ensure that it's working. Set it to a static value of whatever your session.showcase variable is... "myshowcasevar/<ShortFilename".

Thank you David, very nice of you to go thru the trouble of making that video. I will be testing it early in the morning and letting you know how it goes...

WHOA, all day since 8:00AM on this. here is what I have found.

                1. if you use absolute image size, proportional on the thumbnail, the image will upload with the correct size (eg. 100px), but the database will not be updated.
                2. if you use ratio image size on the thumbnail, the image will upload with the correct size (eg. .25 of the original 1024px gave me 256px thumbnail), the database will be updated, but the original image is not scaled, I had mine at absolute 640px width and it uploaded 1024px width
                3. if your session variable is set to a subfolder like "pablos/images/showcase" forget about using the session variable with the transformation expression, the thumbnail will not update database.
                4. if you use "<Filename>" in your transformation expression, you better make sure you used "\" instead of "/" in your session variable for the upload folder because the thumbnail will not update the database.

I'm finding that Uploading images with repeating section works but thumbnail doesn't get generated at all.

This looks like a bug to me.
