Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Summary Values - inserting elsewhere

Is there a way to put the Summary Value of a field in a grid elsewhere on the grid? Like in one of the Freeform Edit Regions? I'd like to put it at the top of the grid, not the bottom. And ideally in the freeform region, but I can't get the reference right. Can someone help with this?

Consider using a UX, so much more flexible

Are you referring to using the List Control?

List control or repeating section. You can create summary fields and put them wherever you want on a UX

I've been playing with the List Control and it looks like it will fit the bill. the only thing I haven't figured out yet is how to filter based on a Date Range. I have a list of invoices with a Date field. I would like 2 date boxes for the client to choose to narrow down the list based on => and =< 2 specific dates. I've tried the server side and even the custom filter. Can't get the syntax right, or even if it's possible. Selwyn's videos show how to set everything up but don't show a Date Range example.

                Okay give this a try,

                New UX,
                Panel card,
                Panel Header,
insert 2 time controls (fdate and ldate) in the panel header and a button.
in the body of the panel insert a list control, set the list control to your table data of what you want to show, then put this in the filter yourdatefield >= :fdate AND yourdatefield<= :ldate then set 2 time value arguments in the list :fdate and :ldate and set their values to the corresponding controls from the header.

Lastly set the click event of the button to list action controls and refresh list data.

You must change the RED yourdatefield above to your field that you want to filter on.

                Hope this works for you.

How is the Argument formatted? My 2 date fields are DateStart and DateEnd.

Re: Summary Values - inserting elsewhere

In my table the date field is a date.

In the arguments list the 2 arguments must be Time. Confusing but it works!

your filter would then be yourdatefield >= :DateStart AND yourdatefield<= :DateEnd

Re: Summary Values - inserting elsewhere

How do you reference the date field in the argument?

{DateStart}|||T|DateStart doesn't work. I've tried all combinations to pull the date from the UX field. The sample data shows absolute values. So I can enter 11/07/2013|||T|DateStart and it works. But need that variable to the form.

                        Got it working this way.
I set the arguments in the List properties Arguments section. Then just referenced them using your above code in the button. Didn't use the Arguments on the button. Worked fine. I assume this will work just fine and not come back to bite me?
