Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to get rid of the you must first save or cancel your changes warning?

    I use a grid with some xbasic code on a button to add items to a shopping cart. There is a quantity field. If someone makes a change, like entering a quantity and then changes their mind and then wants to go to another page, they should not get a warning. I want to over-ride or turn off the warning to save or cancel changes. Anyone know how to do this? I found several posts about this over several years, but no answer.

    Did you try the grid method {grid.Object}.resetGridPart() ?

      That doesn't work. I placed that code on the Client side CanPageNavigate event. It causes a "are you sure you want to cancel all changes" message even when no changes have been made. When you do make a change without saving it you still get the "you must first save or cancel your changes" message. It would be great if there was just a feature to disable these message. I will ask alpha for that enhancement.

        If you want to discard the users changes on the Detail View part of a grid without displaying the "You must first save or cancel your changes" message then you can do this:
        Go to Client-Side Event, "canDetailViewClose", and put in:
        {Grid.object}._detailViewIsDirty = false;
        return true;
        I believe, if you wanted to discard changes in an editable grid when user trys to navigate away from current page then you go to the client-side event, "canPageNavigate", and put in:
        {Grid.object}._isDirty = false;
        return true;
        I don't know if the above is the recommended way to do things or not, but I figured it out by tracing a javascript alert() statement that I placed in the "canDetailViewClose" event. That led me to the following a5 Javascript library function that displays the "you must first save or cancel.." message:

        _confirmAction: function() {
        if(this._readOnly) return true;
        var silentFlag = typeof arguments[0] != 'undefined' ? arguments[0] : false;
        if(this._isDirty) {
        if(!silentFlag) A5.msgBox.show(this.messages.t_dirtyRecordWarning,this.messages.dirtyRecordWarning,'O',function() {} );
        return false;
        } else if(this._detailViewIsDirty) {
        if(!silentFlag) A5.msgBox.show(this.messages.t_dirtyRecordWarning,this.messages.dirtyRecordWarning,'O',function() {} );
        return false;
        }
        return true;
        }
        If you want to save the changes automatically then I suspect there are grid and detail methods you could call from within the canDetailViewClose and canPageNavigate events.

        If you want to stop the user from navigating away from the page then put a 'return false;' in the event handler.

          Simple: On the genie for opening a Grid Component, UNCHECK the property: Warn before closing if grid in window is dirty

            Yep, that was too easy, Carol. Maybe it does not matter, but that option does not appear unless the Target is set to "Window".

              Here is the solution from Selwyn Rabins:
              then you can overwrite the pageNagivate function by adding this code to the grid's onGridRender client-side event:
              (as you can see i have simply commented out the line that ask for confirmation)

              Code:
              {grid.object}.pageNavigate =  function(target) {
              		if(!this._executeEvent('canPageNavigate',{target: target})) return false;
              		var part = typeof arguments[1] != 'undefined' ? arguments[1] : 'G';
              		var additionalData = typeof arguments[2] != 'undefined' ? arguments[2] : '';

              		//if(!this._confirmAction()) return false;
              		this._executeEvent('beforeAjaxCallback',{ajaxEvent: 'PageNavigate'})
              		this._submitLow('PageNavigate',this.gridId,this.ajaxURL,'__targetPage=' + target +'&__part=' + part + '&__dvWindow=' + this._detailViewWindowState +'&' + additionalData);
              		this.clearDetailViewGlobalError();
              		return false;
              }

                Okay, so my post # 4 does not have the method calls to clear global errors, like Selwyn's. Looks like there are two methods for clearing global errors, one for Grid part and one for Detail part:
                {grid.Object}.clearRowErrors(); '-- For Grid
                {grid.Object}.clearDetailViewGlobalError(); '-- For DetailView
