Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Problems saving uploading documents ...

    Hi guys,
I have a sql server database (SQL Server 2008 R2) in which I have a varbinary (MAX) field to store documents data. I'm running the latest alpha anywhere update and server (Alpha Five Version 12) build is 1839_4234. My problem is when you upload a document (any kind of document) and you submit the grid form it seems everything went fine, but when you open the sql database the field of my varbinary is NULL. I really appreciate any help to fix this problem.

You could zip and post your Grid and table.

Almost the same... but not quite. Your Grid is set to add new records only. You can't upload to a new record... it has to be an existing record. I've seen a few other posts about this but I'm not sure I've seen a definitive solution... other than saving the record, then displaying another grid with just that record and allowing the upload from there.

Just for your test... turn on the Add New Records only... and you'll see it works.

              Hi David,
Before I was able to. You can upload a file into a new record in alpha anywhere not in v11. Where do I turn on the add new record only?

I thought I'd read that somewhere... but can't find it. However... I'm not having any luck with new records either.

                  Ok... found it.

Get back into your File Upload dialog builder... click on the Field property builder... and choose Grid Field instead of Table field.

File Uploads to new records will now work.

You've got your field docbody available in the grid... and you've hidden it. All should be good.

Re: Problems saving uploading documents ...

Glad it's working... but there is an issue with Grids in Form Layout mode, New Records, using a Table Field... that should work. Selwyn is looking at it.

It only affects New Records, File Upload, Form Layout Grids, using a Table field.

Before it was working fine using a table field but after the upgrade of the latest version of alpha anywhere it stops working. But I'm glad it's working with grid field.
