Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • UX as alternate editing... Not Working

I'm using a UX with a repeating section. I want to edit the information in the 'description' field so I am using the Action JavaScript "Open UX as an alternate editing view for current record"

I mapped the fields, but the UX opens without any data from the description field. Funny thing is if I map a field that is not in the repeating section, then the UX opens with the filed data and I can change it, and push it back to the parent UX.

Am I missing something here or is the Action JavaScript function not working with repeating sections?

I could be wrong, but I don't think that javascript action is intended to edit repeating section data. It's there to edit the primary current record... the parent.

But... I have a question. You're in a UX, with a repeating section... so it's all bound to tables... why don't you want to edit the description field right there? Just curious.

Another way to edit (not in the field) is to open a Window Container.

      Thanks for the reply.

The app is used on an Ipad so it's difficult to position the curser in just the right place. A pop-up with give the user more space to work with, thus making it much easier to edit.

I also tried using a Window Container, but it seems because I am using panels that the pop-up does not work right either. It comes up without any field or button. I tried the same approach on another project I have that does not use panels and the Window Container - pop-up works just fine. So I guess it must be the panel that is causing a problem. May the Window Container is not designed to work within panels.

Using the Window Container, you have to provide all the tools... but it's not too tough.

The Window Container will contain a Textbox Control, and 2 Buttons... 1 for Ok and 1 for Cancel.

When you call the Window Container you'll have client side code which reads the value of the repeating section description and feeds it to the Textbox control in the Window Container.

You'll edit the text and click OK or Cancel.

Cancel will just close the Window.

Ok, will take the edited description and write it back to the repeating section field... then close the window.

        Have a look...
