Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Show linked child grid based on field/condition in parent grid

    Hi
This problem has been asked here in the forum in 2010 and 2011 with no visible solution.
Basically, i would like to show a linked child grid only based on the value of a field in the parent grid. How do we do that?

    TIA
    Jaime

Re: Show linked child grid based on field/condition in parent grid

Are you referring to the show/hide expression in the linked content definition ?

I put the linked content section in a div with some id & then I use javascript to check for a field value in the parent grid to decide whether to show the linked content section yes or no. Very simple although I have to admit that the help text for the show/hide expression is rather minimal: I gave it a quick try with "id=somevalue" where "id" is a numeric field in my parent grid & also with an xbsic udf but it does not seem to work. I think that show/hide expression is something being evaluated at render time only and that would explain the reference to session vars in the help.

Re: Show linked child grid based on field/condition in parent grid

      hello
you may be able to do in row expander and place the linked content in the expanded row.
and hide the expander icon for any condition or show for any condition.

I played a lot with that "show/hide expression" but it didn't work. Did you manage to have it working?

Do you mean i can use the row expander without the + icon and put the child grid completely underneath the parent, like for a normal linked child grid?

No. You will place as a row expander, but you can hide the + button for certain conditions

              Jaime,

As I told you I use a div & javascript to hide/unhide the section. Nevertheless I asked Selwyn for some clarification as the help text was rather minimal. This will be in the next pre-release as help text:

Yup Frank, the putting the section in a div and using javascript seems logical to me. Will give it a try.

                Many thanks!

                  I could be wrong, but
Linked contents, when they are defined, are placed in a div during definition time. You don't have to place them in yet another div.

Re: Show linked child grid based on field/condition in parent grid

You are right but in a situation where you have a detail view below the parent grid & then for example you want to put the linked content section to the right of the detailview you do need a div in order to layout the thing in the master template. It all depends.

Sorry cannot manage to get it working...
Could you please help me with the semantics?

Assuming in my parent grid, i have a field named "Type", and my linked contect section is named myContent, what do i put in the javascript show/hide expression if i want the content to appear only when Type='y' ?
