Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How do I add a button to fire a popup UX to a .a5w page?

    Hi,

    Simple question I hope. Adding A5 Components to .a5w pages is basic stuff however how do I add a button or link that fires a popup UX Component to the same .a5w page.

    Thanks

    Where do you want this button? ...are you using a Tabbed UI?

      Hi,

      No not using a tabbed UI. The .a5w page has a UX Component already inserted. I want a button above the UX component that fires a different UX component in a popup. There is a reason I'm not just adding it to the UX Component but the explanation will only add confusion.

      Cheers

        Re: How do I add a button to fire a popup UX to a .a5w page?

        hello

        I am not able to add component to a5w page ( look at a new thread by me in version 11 web section) at the moment since I am using windows 8. I will test later in version 7

        I think it is possible to hide the ux when placed in a div with an id and on page load javascript can hide it and the button can unhide it.

        just a thought process, needs testing.
        I will give it a try later on.

        also there is a video - eye candy in ux I will search for it has something similar.

        video:
        take a look at video d14 version 11.
        is that you are after.

          Something like this might work. Put the popup in another a5w page and open that from a button in the first page.
          <button onclick='open_the_page_function()'>OPEN</button>

          <script>
          function open_the_page_function {
          open the page here;
          }
          </script>

            Within a UX component you can create a button that calls the Action Java script to "Open a UX Component" as a popup. I'm trying to do the same thing from the .a5w page. Any thoughts?

              Re: How do I add a button to fire a popup UX to a .a5w page?

              check out the attached sample project. On the page test.a5w there's a button & a link that open (when clicked...) the my-ux.a5w page in a modeless popup. Not a modal popup because that will probably be your next question...

              If you want that, then open test2.a5w where you have a page with a UX containing... a link & a button that open (when clicked...) the my-ux.a5w page in a modal or modeless popup.
              Doing a modal popup yourself is not straight forward and besides why would you want to do that if you have the power of Alpha + it gives you the advantage of easily styling the whole thing ?

                Hi Frank,

                That's fantastic, exactly what I was after. Thanks
