Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Creating Pick List and storing the selections

I'm hoping someone with more programing knowledge than I have can help me with this design.
    I am currently using Alpha 5 v12
I have developed a web based building permit tracking system
I need to design a new feature that allows the "plans examiner" to assign which inspections will be required for each permit issued.
I was hoping to store the inspection options in a table and create a checklist of the options dynamically at run-time then once the "plan examiner" selects which inspections are required from the check list have those selections store in a table that is linked to each permit via the "Permit Number" in a one to many relationship.

It was my plan to create a dialog using an UX component that could be used to make the selections and insert the records into a table and then display the selections in a linked grid.

I stared by using a UX component, placing a checkbox control in a header that is generated dynamically from a lookup table.
The lookup table will store a short description of the inspection, i.e., Footing, Framing, or Sheetrock and a memo field with details of what the inspector will be looking for.

My first problem is the list is displayed alphabetically and not in the order I want and I can't figure how to re-order the list.

My plan is, once I overcome the check list indexing problem, is to use an 'onclick' event on the checkbox to insert new records into the repeating section container and insert the new records into the detail table via the submit button.

So if you have endured this long message to this point I have 2 questions.

    1. Is it possible to sort a dynamically created check-box list other than alphabetically?
    2. Is there a better approach to achieving my goad than the path I have chosen?

    To answer question 1. Yes.

Do you have a sort field in your table?

If you use the expert mode when creating the list, you can sort it any way that you want - but you have to use the expert mode, you can't do it from the easy mode.

    Question 2:

Maybe - it really depends on the design and how you need things to work. I'm using V11, not V12, so I'm not the best person to answer part II.

Expert Mode? Never used it, where and how is this mode activated.

If you are already creating the checklist from a table, you just need to go into the dynamic choices section. It defaults to the "genie" but there is an expert tab there. Click on that and look around.

(at least that is the way it works in a grid - it should be similar in a UX component)
