Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Lists and filters

    Hi all,

I have a listbox which I wish to filter by date. Preferably server side.

So, I add a TextBox of type Date, lets call it SearchDate and in the OnChange event, I have added ActionJavascript to filter the list on the contents of SearchDate. All fine when the default US format is specified in the properties section and the . When I change it to dd/mm/yy format and look at the debug statement I get (1=2). Pictures attached. Is there some magic to making it work using non-US dates? The date/time picker is set to <DefaultDateFormat> and the display format of the SearchDate field is time("{grid.clientSideDateFormat}",<value>).

So, to recap on this, it works when you specify US date format in the UX properties, but fails when you change that to dd/mm/yy.

    Thanks,

    Phil

    Re: Lists and filters

If I change my UX Properties... "Date" format in the "Other" section and change nothing else... this works ok.

The default was MM/dd/yyyy. I changed that format to dd/MM/yyyy and my filter is working. I changed that format again to dd/MM/yy and it's still ok. I did not change any other format anywhere. My TextBox (Date type) I just dropped it on and didn't change a thing.

You write that you're using a format of dd/mm/yy but to be specific you're really using dd/MM/yy... is that right?

For my Textbox search date, under Display Format I have nothing set. Under Date/Time Picker the Date Format is <Default>.

      Re: Lists and filters

      Hi David

To confirm, yes ... I had the date formats set as dd/MM/yy or MM/dd/yy

I made a quick screencast ... sorry ... no mic for recording sound, but hopefully this will show what happens for me. The data is in a SQL table called TillHeaders with TransactionDate being a date field.

I added a Date field to the screen, set it up with just the defaults, nothing changed, except for specifying the OnChange event to filter the data. The settings are included in the video. The list is just set to use the TillHeader file with just two fields shown in the list display ... TransactionDate and Total. Again ... all defaults left as is. I added a debug placeholder to show what the ActionJavascript is generating.

I go to properties, set the date format to MM/dd/yy and all works ... but setting it to dd/MM/yy gives me the Filter (1=2)

You must be doing something different to me. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

      Regards,

      Phil

        Re: Lists and filters

I found the difference between out setups... I think.

My PC system date is set for dd/MM/yyyy

When I change my system date to MM/dd/yyyy and the UX Other Date property is NOT set the same... then I get the same results as you where filter reports (1=2)

However, there is another way to do this which does work. And that is to use the Javascript Action "List Control Actions", "Filter List - Server Side".

        Have a look...

          Re: Lists and filters

          Hi David,

Thanks again for your assistance. It seems to work ok doing it the way you just outlined.

The server side filter is there, rather than client side, because the TillHeader file currently has about 63000 entries and I don't want to load them all up and then filter on the client side (and for each row on the header file, there could be one or several child records). Or am I being stupid here?

If I can bend your ear a little longer, the same difficulty persists on the totalling as previously. http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...-when-filtered

When I enter the UX to begin with, the list is unfiltered and the totalling works ok. As soon as I apply the filter, then I get Javascript errors about 'total' being undefined. I made a little video of that on the other thread which I have just shared.

I think I will report the original problem as a bug ... I would have thought the whole idea of setting the component defaults was so that internationalisation would just work!

          Cheers,

          Phil

            Re: Lists and filters

Did anyone have any luck with this issue? I'm experiencing a similar problem - all my date formats (component level and textbox level) are set to dd/MM/yyyy as above, but when I select a date less than or equal to 12 the filter switches the date and month around. Dates greater than 12 appear correctly, so it seems that the javascript action is trying to guess the date format and ignoring the setting.
