Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • List Detail View

    Hi,

I'm sure it's just be being blind but I can't seem to find any documentation on how to use Detail View feature of the List component. There doesn't seem to be any video showing the usage of this feature either.

Has anyone used it or is it an unfinished feature in Alpha Anywhere?

    Kind Regards
    Dan

    Hope this helps a bit...

New Info... the detail view property was exposed in error - it is part of a currently unreleased feature - support for disconnected applications.

      Re: List Detail View

      Thanks David.

Good video, explains what the feature does. My windows for details view has more options, I guess the build is different. I had a different vision of what detail view does in my head.
Is it correct to assume you need to have all fields from List control mirrored in detail to make the feature work?

        Hey Dan,

Is it correct to assume you need to have all fields from List control mirrored in detail to make the feature work?
The big caveat here is that we got a taste of a feature and we've no idea what's planned for it. Great stuff, as usual, but the details aren't here yet. Having said that, no... it doesn't look like it matters if you use all the fields or not. I've got more fields in my Select than I'm showing in my List... and more fields in my DetailView than in my List.

In my List I have CustId and LastName. In my DetailView I have LastName, FirstName, Company, etc. I don't even have the key field. It's just matching fields and doing something like a getvalue/setvalue.

Actually, it would be easy to duplicate this behaviour without the DetailView stuff in place. Just curious... what did you think the DetailView stuff did?

          Re: List Detail View

Well as it is now it seems to be just like loading values with populate function.

My idea of detail view would have been a cool expansion of the additional fields in the list field itself. Expanding list item and shows additional fields with option to save data if so chosen. That would have been handy. Especially if you could add extra items, such as charts and maps.

I like how sleek alpha can be but some areas still are a bit clumsy.

Thanks of the help though. I'm going to play a bit with this and check if it's more efficient then other methods for certain functions.

            Re: List Detail View

I'm trying to use the list detail view feature and keep getting an error message when I try to exit the list builder dialog: "You have not defined the Table Properties for the tables in the List. Please set the 'Table properties' on the 'Detail View' pane."

Unless I'm missing something totally obvious, there is no 'Table Properties' on the Detail View pane of the list builder?

The list works correctly without the detail view enabled.

Any thoughts? Anyone know of any further documentation on this feature, other than the single video referenced earlier?

              Re: List Detail View

Robert, this feature is incomplete and gets fully enabled in the next update of Alpha. Hopefully coming out soon.

Hopefully, indeed. A bit odd that this beta feature winds up in a production release.
