Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    UX componant opens slow

I'm working on a data entry program and it has allot of controls in TABs. My issue is loading the program. With the amount of controls on the tabs it's taking to long to load. I tried breaking up my program to 5 div style pages but then there is a delay when moving through the div pages from page 1 to 2 or 3 to 4 etc. It's about 1/12 to 2 second delay between the div pages and I have about 15 controls on each page. Another thought is to leave it with the slow opening to the tabs but add something to keep the user busy when they go to open the program. After the program is opened in the TABS it runs lightning fast and that is what I need for the data entry people.

Any thought on this would be a help.

    Rock On!

    Re: UX componant opens slow

You're not alone ... several people have posted here about slow opening UX's (including myself). Others have said that their UX opens in only a few seconds even with nearly 100 controls in it. My UX has a list, an absolute container with a background image, and about 100 controls. It takes a full 16 seconds for it to render. There isn't any custom coding or calculated fields. It's exactly how I described. Just a simple UX. The sql table it pulls from is only about 100 fields too.

It was suggested to me that there must be something wrong and that I could find the problem by incrementally removing controls until I find the source of the slow down. I did that and the UX incrementally gets faster with less controls. I never did find any problems and my UX still loads slow.

      Re: UX componant opens slow

I went ahead and tried working with DIVs. I cut down my pages to less then 15 controls per page. It still took me 1.5 to 2 seconds to go from one page to the next with DIVs. If I open my program the way it is now with over 50 controls on each pane with 3 panes and 150 controls in total it takes over 16 seconds to open the program but then it is lightening fast moving through the panes.

I have a few people looking at it to speed things up but I guess like you I can't get rid of my controls or take them all off leaving just a few. My program would not function properly with less controls. My real question is why when I used DIVs in place of the panes did it take so long to switch from one page to another. I felt the 1.5 to 2 seconds was allot for a data entry person to sit and watch a twirling wait symbol when moving from one page to another and waiting to finish typing in the record.
