Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Disable control with xbasic

    Hi,

I have a control that I want to disable based on a xbasic expression. I know it is easy to do in Javascript but I guess I need to do it with xbasic...

I have a table with people, some of these people has got a webuser account connected to it (linked via the email adress). If the person a person has got a webuser accout you should not be able to change the email (and break the link).

    What I want to do:
When the "people" UX component loads I have to check if the email in the record is used in the websecurity, if it is I have to disable the control that contains the email.

Any ideas on how to go forward?

    Robert

You have not mentioned your backend, but if it is SQL, make a view and link people table to security user table then if a security user field has a value disable the control, all using client side rather than xbasic as requested.
    Maybe this will help.

      Re: Disable control with xbasic

      Thanks for your answer!

I was reading some data and maybe I could use the A5WS_WebUser_Exists() function when initialising the component, I just don't know how I can disable the control with xbasic. Something like the following would be nice:

      if A5WS_WebUser_Exists(Email)
      Email.disable()
      else
      Email.enable()
      end if

And yes, I use SQL backend...

        Re: Disable control with xbasic

How does the table people get populated with and without security users.
Are you using add security user dialog and another general purpose dialog?
        thanks for reading

Not sure if I understand... but... if you're checking the email with XBasic does that mean you're performing an Ajax Callback? If so, the return value from your callback will contain the Javascript to disable that control.

          E.g.

          function checkEmail as c (e as p)

          dim usedInWeSecurity as l
          ' do your email checking...

          if usedInWebSecurity then
checkEmail = "javascript to disable button;"
          end if

          end function

            hi david
I was thinking of doing it in a different way ( I know you are not the original author of the post)

since the people table is possibly populated by two sources, say for example source one - general_add dialog and source two security_add dialog
how about adding one more field to the people table such as web_security_user as a logical field. and the general_add dialog will set the property false and the security_add dialog will set it true. ( both dialogs will hide the field, of course)

then all you have to do is check that field (hidden again) and if it is true disable the email address field.
of course you can make this field visible to an administrator and change any user from one condition to another.
            thanks for reading

              Re: Disable control with xbasic

THanks a lot for your suggestions! I have got closer to a solution but it is still not working fully.

              Here is the full workflow:
              1. Simple read only grid with names from the "People" SQL table
              2. Each record has got a "details" button wich opens up a UX component containing all data of that record (like a "detail view" from earlier grids).
              3. The details view contains an email field which I want to check if it is available in the web security as a user.

This is how far I have got:
              1. I have placed a checkbox on the UX component. The checkbox is disabled and unbound (only there to show status, not to be clicked by the user)
              2. I run a script to populate this checkbox during initialize of the component:
              e.control.account = a5ws_webuser_exists(e.rtc._data.email)
The script populates the checkbox "account" if the value in "email" is available in the web security.
After this I can set properties to other fields in the UX by using javascript depending of the status of the checkbox "account".

This all works BUT the e.rtc._data.email is only available the first time the UX is running. If I close the "details" and open the same record again, the data is not available so the script is not giving the correct results. Is there any other and more consistent way to get the data that is being populated in a UX component during the initializing phase (in this case the "email" field)?

Otherwise, GGandhi's solution might be better, to actually store the data in the "people" sql table. it would probably also be faster as I dont need so many ajax callbacks...

              Thanks!
              Robert
