Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Problem with a component and its security groups

I'm having problems with a component, I set the component security to Require Login and selected the groups. When I go to Live preview it goes straight to the preview and the prompt asking me which groups I want to enable is not showing, therefore the page is showing almost blank, just an image is showing. I have tried changing the Component Security to Always allowed but the page rendering is the same, almost blank. This component was working perfectly, I made a slight change to one link to be shown only to a particular group, and after this change the problem appeared. I tried also reverting that change but now the component is not working as before. I also tried restoring a backed up version of the component and that is not working either in the Live preview, but the restored version from the back up is working ok in the server is working.

    Try,
Edit->Bulk Operation->Update Compiled Files for AJAX Grids

Other than that as a last resort scrap it and build another one from scratch. This may not be great advice but this worked for me a few times when things were not working as I knew they should be.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that didn't do it, this particular component is the more complex one and it was working perfectly, somehow is not doing the Component Security call, that window just simply doesn't show up, all the other components do show that prompt window and I can pick the group to be simulated.

Ok so you have a working back up?
if you do can you repeat the problem every time?

I would go into properties for the detail view and re-save each update, insert, delete permissions (assuming this is an updateable grid) then save and test

        sounds weird for sure.

Re: Problem with a component and its security groups

I'm live Previewing other components and a lot of them are not rendering ok... column spacers are not rendering, instead {Control.Def} is shown, Dropdown Labels are shown as p2.heading_leftNameofControl and the values in the the dropdown are not showing. Something got corrupted. I tried reinstalling the official alpha release but that didn't do it, then installed latest prerelease version and that is not doing it neither. I tried changing properties in the component so it recalculates, but no luck.

Update: I installed a trial version in another laptop and moved the project there and everything is working perfectly. Somehow the Alpha Installation in the main computer is corrupted. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it but the problem persists there in that computer.

Try tossing the computer into a tub full of water! lol
            NO DONT! Just kidding!

Sounds like that thing has a wild hair - the last time someone on here had a crazy issue it was a registry problem, all I can say is good luck and I can't help you on that!

Re: Problem with a component and its security groups

Something is definitely wrong in the project folder, I formatted the computer and I'm getting the error, previously I used the project via dropbox in the other laptop, it seems that the version in the laptop was not updated with changes done in the main computer and there it loaded correctly... I'm now using the tables from the main computer backup and replacing the ones in the laptop because the main computer tables have more records. I really want to know what could have gone wrong, the ux are all opening correctly in the main computer, but not the grids. I'll continue with the merging and make a workable project from the 2 versions. If someone knows what could have gone wrong and know the answer please share it, thanks.

What version are you on? I had similar issues at some point that were ironed in version 1970 (pre-release)

I did revert to the last official release but the problem persisted, I had to merge the tables from the main development computer with the webproject folder in another laptop that synced with dropbox a couple of days before.
