Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    iFrame Panelcards - scrolling difficulties

    I have spent the greater part of the day messing around with the same problem, trying to assimilate advice/videos from all over these forums and the web. I can't seem to find a definitive solution to what must surely be something very straight forward.

    I am populating an iFrame Panelcard with varying urls/pdfs that are in a List. The list's OnClick event triggers a JavaScript function that populates the src control of the Panelcard and then sets my focus to that panel. So far so good.

    The panel has a header with Back button, and this also is working good. However, the web sites are of varying sizes, and so are the PDFs. Sometimes Alpha get's it right and allows me to scroll all the way to the right and bottom of a site, other times, I cannot scroll to the right or bottom of a page (especially with iPAD).

    What am I doing wrong? Do I need to do anything extra with the onSize event?

    The iPad will not let you scroll the iFrame.

      I should have said the iPad will not let you scroll the URL in an iFrame. It will work OK with a5w pages.

        Correct, everything else worked out ok. It's just the iPad that is giving me grief with scrolling.

        Is there a trick to make iPad work as well, i.e. somehow inserting the url programmatically into an embedded a5w element on a panelcard?

        This would be sweet as I definitely want scrolling to work properly on an iPad.

        Thanks responders and readers!

          // I also have been unsuccessfult making the iFrame on the iPad scrolll URLs properly like you are trying to do.
          // See how this might work for you..in the List Properties-Javascript-Run Time - OnDblClick event
          // This line below may be different in your setup but this might give you some ideas.
          var fn = this.selectionData[0].Panelcard_a5w_page ;
          if (fn == "first URL value in your list")
          {
          window.open(fn,'_blank');
          }

          if (fn == "second URL value in your list")
          {
          window.open(fn,'_blank');
          }

          Surely, if you have many of these you may want to use something other than the if statements.

            Re: iFrame Panelcards - scrolling difficulties

            Thanks for the responses. As I continue to look at this, I wonder if a better approach would be either:
            #1. In my UX, add an embedded object: external page (how would I reference the url field within an embedded object via javascript? I know how to reference iFrame src as it was in the panelcard_5, 'body').
            #2. I got a TabbedUI to do what I need. How would I go about embedding this into my UX? I read I need to use embedded object: a5w page, but I couldn't get it to work.
            Thinking it may be better to avoid iFrame altogether. Hummmm... Don't know if embedded object will present the same difficulties with scrolling. I am interested in testing it out.

              Re: iFrame Panelcards - scrolling difficulties

              Update on #2 - I needed to be using Live Preview. However, in both #1 and #2's approach, my embedded object is not coming through full panelcard size, even though I have 'Fill Panel Card Container' checked? This is a must. I suspect I will prefer #1 approach if someone can help me with referencing the embedded object url field from a javascript function. Thanks.

                Re: iFrame Panelcards - scrolling difficulties

                Unless you have access to the web page source code you are trying to scroll you will not be able to make the web page be able to scroll in an iFrame on an iPad.
                Respectfully, you are doing GREAT!
                The problem you are experiencing with the iFrames is not the fault of Alpha, but rather Apple. It is well annotated in Google.
                You have concluded correctly that you should avoid the iFrames and look for another way.
                Very Good, sir.

                  Thanks for the positivity, Frank. I am still looking for help/advice on the embedded object approach... and am wondering if there is any way to ensure either an external url or a TabbedUI is full panel. I am checking this option but the embedded object still comes through as a smaller, fixed size on my panelcard. External url would be the easiest way to go, but I also am still at a loss on how to reference the field: panelcard.embeddedobject.url Thanks for all the help everyone.
