Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    report.saveas or a5w_report_saveas report reference location

    I am trying to use the following function for Project reports.

    filename = report.saveas(reportname,"html",sqlfilter,sqlorder,filename,.f.,"",args )

    I am trying to figure out how to correctly reference project reports. I can get project reports to run using these functions if I specify the complete path to the report.

    report = "C:\Users\Userdir\Documents\Alpha Five V12\myprojectdir\myprojectname.webprojects\default.webproject\reportname.a5rpt"

    However, I tried using report = "reportname@ProjectReport" and I receive an error stating the projectreport.db does not exist. What is the correct syntax for referencing project reports so you can run these functions in working preview, live preview and production.

    error.JPG

    For NON project reports, I can use report = "old_report_type@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\projectname.alb" without any issue and the report runs in preview modes and production correctly.

    Here's a working sample (use a5w_report_saveAs for web apps):

    Code:
    dim	cFilenameInDir as C = filename_decode("[PathAlias.File_Path]") + "\\" + "MyReport.pdf"
    a5w_report_saveAs("MyReport@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\Support_Coordination.alb","PDF","","",cFilenameInDir,global_variables(),null_value(),args)
    The global_variables() is not anything I'm setting intentionally. Just the example given.

    The Path Aliases are set up in Web > Project Settings at the top of the Web Projects Control panel.

      Thanks, but I have repots in the DB working as you show. I need to get Project reports path from the web projects to be dynamic so it works in test (live preview)
      and production.

      From what I have been able to determine, project report are referenced something line the following:
      filename = report.saveas(reportname@ProjectReport,"html",sqlfilter,sqlorder,filename,.f.,"",args )

      I found this by looking at the action to open a report and selecting a project report. However, when I use reportname@projectreport I get the error referenced above.

        Re: report.saveas or a5w_report_saveas report reference location

        Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question, but if you have two paths; one used when it's running live, and one used when you are using it in preview, could you not use the Working Preview Flag? You can slap it into your OnInitialize Event.

        Code:
        if a5w_FlagWorkingPreviewOrPreview() = .T. then
        	Your path variable = working preview path
        end if
        your path variable = live path

          Re: report.saveas or a5w_report_saveas report reference location

          Yes that method will work but I was hoping there was a reference that could be used that automatically detects the correct directory for project reports. There is an automatic reference for non project reports as follows old_report_type@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\projectname.alb. However, when the report is a project report (report.a5rpt), it is stored in different locations for testing (i.e. preview modes - myprojectdir\myprojectname.webprojects\default.webproject\reportname.a5rpt) verses production (stored a5webroot\projectdir).

          Thanks for telling me about a5w_FlagWorkingPreviewOrPreview(), I did not know that it existed.

            Don't worry, that happens a lot around here. Without this forum I would have given up a LONG time ago.

                Re: report.saveas or a5w_report_saveas report reference location

                I used the method Jinx suggested with some modifications.

                Code:
                if eval_valid("request.SERVER_PROTOCOL") then
                	if request.SERVER_PROTOCOL = "A5RES" then
                		'running in working preview
                		wp = 1
                	end if
                end if

                	if rpt_type = "excel" then
                		f_type = "xlsx"
                	else
                		f_type = rpt_type
                	end if

                if a5w_FlagWorkingPreviewOrPreview() .or. wp = 1 then
                	Dim filename as c = "C:\SOMEDIR\temp.pdf" 'running interactive mode, WP or Live
                	filename = file.filename_parse(filename, "DPN" )+ "." + rpt_type
                	if "projectreport" $ reportname then
                		reportname = "C:\Users\myuser\Documents\Alpha Five V12\myproject\myproject.webprojects\default.webproject\\" + reportnameshort + ".a5rpt"
                	end if

                else
                	if "projectreport" $ reportname then
                		reportname = filename_decode("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]" + chr(92))+reportnameshort + ".a5rpt"
                	else
                		reportname = reportnameshort + "@" + filename_decode(word(reportname,2,"@"))
                	end if
                	Dim filename as c = Request.GetRequestTempFileName() 'running of web server for production
                	filename = file.filename_parse(filename, "DPN" )+"."+ f_type
                end if

                dim options as p
                options.filter = sqlfilter
                sqlfilter = ""
                dim description as c = reportnameshort + " " + "email_"+convert_type(ci, "c")+" "+now()

                'Added print options because of print driver issues. Default font was coming up as Tahoma and that font could not be viewed on Android unless it was embedded.
                dim printOptions as p
                printOptions.blank = ""
                printOptions.EmbedFonts = .T.

                filename = report.saveas(reportname,rpt_type,sqlfilter,sqlorder,filename,.f.,printOptions,args,options )
                'a5w_report_saveAs() should be used for web applications.
