Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Repeating Sections inside of UX for editing existing records

Does anyone use this method for modifying data that doesn't necessarily have a header/detail type relationship? I have several lot schedules and would like for my user's to be able to modify the data but I only need to be able to edit records in a single table and don't need a "header" record to locate the records that need to be modified. I am just wondering if it works for my requirement.

I do something similar but use an editable grid. That seems to work the best for me and it's far easier to define the data source.

I'm not sure that you're allowed to create and populate a repeating section without a header section... using the normal methods of populating data. Is that possible? Sorry... didn't provide any type of answer... just wondering if you can even get there.

as a.h said, it is lot easier in an editable grid. the important stuff to remember not to show the foreign key field or people play with that and the record will get corrupted or orphaned.
having header and detail the best way, but you can do it if it is a must.

This is for a mobile app that runs on ipads and iphones. The issue is that you can't scroll the grid on those devices because an iframe is used to embed the component. That is why I was asking about the repeating sections in the ux.

Ah, IC. Maybe use a list control?

Re: Repeating Sections inside of UX for editing existing records

The issue with using a list control, I am currently using one is I have to send them to a different panel card each time they want to edit a single task instead of being able to make as many changes as they need to and submit. It's just cumbersome for them and I was hoping to make it easier.

Re: Repeating Sections inside of UX for editing existing records

Have you tried to do a ux as you've described? I'm not sure if it's possible as I've never tried it. I'm sure it's possible if you use your own XBasic to populate it and submit it but that would be a little bit of a pain.

Does a grid still use an iframe in a tabbed ui? The reason I ask is that I thought my grids were working ok in my application on ipads. That's based on not having any user complaints though since I only use Android for testing. I actually have to call someone to have them try on Apple devices.

Did you try using the header and hiding all it's fields, showing just the repeating section?

Re: Repeating Sections inside of UX for editing existing records

                      It is actually rather easy.

If you make a view of the table concerned.

                      SELECT
                      sort.PK_ID AS PK_ID,
                      sort.Sort AS Sort,
                      sort.Description AS Description,
1 AS Link, // Here I have just made sure 1 is set as a link.
                      sort.Type
                      from `sort`

I then made a new table called Head with one record.
                      The Primary key was 1
You don't need to do this you can make a view of a table Limit 1 and link to that static record.
Obviously using a table that is never used is safer.

In the OnInitializeComplete paste this code. You can get it by using the wizard.
                      {dialog.object}.populateControlsFromTable('1',false,'','<Default>','<Default>',{"showWaitMessage": false});

I tested it and it works.

                      Repeating section.jpg

I will gladly make a video if this is of interest.

                        Sorry

                          While I am apologising

Gandhi is correct I should not show the Link field; it is sure to be edited.

I will try Jamie and Michael's solutions. Thank you all for your feedback.

                            Jinx,

I would definitely reach out to your clients and make sure it's working. A tabUI does use iframes but maybe there is some mechanism that AA has built into it that handles the scrolling differently but I don't think so. This issue with scrolling iframe's on an IOS devices are posted all over this forum. It's not Alpha's fault either, it's an Apple thing.
