Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Updating LIST control fields/rows from xBasic

    I have a List control with 3 fields.
    The name of the List control is LIST1. The fields are FIELD1, FIELD2 and FIELD3. The list is not related to any SQL table, and has just calculated values for 1 or more rows.
    I also have a Xbasic Function that calculates values. For simplicity assume it has calculated the three values as follows for 2 rows, I have an array but using just multiple variables in my example below :
    Dim ROW1_FIELD1 As C
    Dim ROW1_FIELD2 As C
    Dim ROW1_FIELD3 As C

    Dim ROW2_FIELD1 As C
    Dim ROW2_FIELD2 As C
    Dim ROW2_FIELD3 As C

    Now how do I, clear the LIST1 and then access and update the 3 fields in the LIST1 from xBasic for Row 1 and also for Row2? I have seen numerous examples for the update using Javascript, but please help for update from xBasic.

    Thanks!

    Re: Updating LIST control fields/rows from xBasic

    I don't think you'd update it from XBasic... not in the ordinary sense. Your XBasic is likely in an Ajax Callback where you're getting your new data. You'd return Javascript from that Callback. Your Javascript would most likely call a Javascript Function which would take your array of data, passed out of your Callback in JSON format, as an argument. The Javascript function would use the .populate method on the List passing in the data sent from the Callback.

    If you want to post your UX, with your List and sample XBasic that creates some static data inside the XBasic function... I'll finish it off for you showing you transition from the server to the client and populating the List control.

      David,

      Thank you. I will try what you said.
      But, originally I meant, accessing the objects values from xBasic just like you can access/update say "Grid" by using the special 'e._setRow<rowNumber>' object. [where the Javascripts is automatically returned by the xBasic/Ajax, I do not have to do Javascript coding. xBasic does it for me.]
      e._setRow3.lastname.value = "Smit"
      e._setRow_1.lastname.style.color = "Green"
      Is there a way you can access the List fields using the e. or equivalent notation?
      Regards.

        Re: Updating LIST control fields/rows from xBasic

        For a list I have a custom xBasic function that populates a list as shown below. There is a textbox that determines the values of the list (if TEXTBOX1 is 100, the values are ... else...)
        It works nice, except during program start-up, when probably e.rv.V.R1.TEXTBOX1 is not yet defined (and/or rendered), I get the error message "Error executing code for Custom Data Source: command: if e.rv.V.R1.TEXTBOX1= "100" then property not found, e.rv.V subelement not found. To refresh, I am using the code:{dialog.object}.refreshListData('LIST1'); - at this time the e.rv.V.R1.TEXTBOX1 is already defined (or rendered) - so works good. How do I test if object e.rv.V.R1.TEXTBOX1 is defined?

        function xbasic_populate_my_list1 as c (e as p)
        if e.rv.V.R1.TEXTBOX1 = "100" then
        txt = <<%txt%
        [
        {firstname: 'Fred100', lastname: 'Smith100'} ,
        {firstname: 'richard100', lastname: 'smith100'}
        ]
        %txt%
        else
        txt = <<%txt%
        [
        {firstname: 'Fred200', lastname: 'Smith200'} ,
        {firstname: 'richard200', lastname: 'smith200'}
        ]
        %txt%
        end if
        xbasic_populate_my_list1 = txt

        Thanks,
