Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Anyone have advice on how to incorporate this in a UX?

Not to date, but this is one that I am seriously considering to use down the road.

Ah! I did see this. Steve Wood has experience with it. You may want to consider asking him: http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...l=1#post523544

        Re: recaptcha

Yeah I saw that as well and hoped he would take the time BUT one thing I have learned is that sometimes simply saying oh I did this to achieve "that" only leads to 30 thousand other questions and eventually drags the contributor down a long arduous and often regrettable road. It may be that it is not easily explained as well - especially to beginners like me! lol
This forum is great but the time it takes to learn some of the fundamentals is often needed before you can begin to implement API's ect.
We will see what advice some of the experts can give us - I think it's pretty involved after reading the help files.

Actually, I have experience with CAPTCHA, not reCAPTCHA. The former is a concept or method, the later is a 3rd party product and, if I recall, requires a server connection between you and the recaptcha server. I built a captcha equivalent utility in Alpha, available on my Store.

It is less needed now because Alpha has built-in captcha in the UX (although I cannot make it work and cannot find any instructions anywhere on how to implement). But really, the best captcha these days is asking the person something like "add 5+2" and confirm they enter 7. I have this silly captcha on the IADN Forum "Who makes Alpha Five? Hint: A _ _ _ _ S _ _ _ _ _ _ _" and I have NO spam signups.

so true steve - it is the simplest things...I have the alpha built-in captcha working with little to no effort its just ugly, lol
All I did was insert it and it works...so far I have a drop down where a user must enter a "real" fish the choices are batfish, redfish, armadillofish and dorkfish
and set an on off switch to on - so far not a single attempt...

            thanks for weighing in!

I am not a fan of Alpha's built in captcha. I attempted to use it at one point, but most of the captchas would generate "off-screen", so you couldn't see 1-2 of the characters. Seemed like it would be even more of a pain for people than a 3rd party captcha or Quantum Random Bit Generator.

<<Quantum Random Bit Generator>>. Oh, I love that! I will have to build that in.

I like and use my own CAPTCHA. Rather than one-size-fits-all, it has options for Number of characters, digits-only, alpha-only, both alpha and digits, noise on/off (noise obscures the text), and comes with sixty plain or designer backgrounds.
