Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Working Preview Script Error on Grid with "Linked Content"

    I hope someone can help!

Tonight, I was trying to edit a grid that I last edited more than 6 months ago and, when I do a "Working Preview" I get a "Script Error" (see below). This grid had been functioning perfectly for more than 2 years, so I did some investigating to determine the cause. In short EVERY grid in the application works perfectly, EXCEPT the ones with "Linked Content" (other grids). Even if I create a 1-field grid and link it to another 1 field grid, I get the error.

Then I went to other my Applications and found the same issue. Again, all of the grids display perfectly, except those that had Linked Content. ALSO, in "Live Preview," they display perfectly, but in "Working Preview," I get the script error.

Unfortunately, it has been several months since I designed an Application that had linked grids, so I don't know if this is related to my installation of Alpha Anywhere (I DO have the latest build installed) or if there's something else happening in my system). Perhaps, I need to edit some script setting in Internet Options, but I just don't know where to look.

    I'd appreciate any help.

Re: Script Error on Grid with "Linked Content"

everyone has problem with version 11 and internet explorer 11 and or windows 8.1. the problems noted were in editing or creating a5w pages. I did not see specifically with linked content. even without a5w pages there is problem with windows 8.1 working preview so whenever I am experimenting in the computer that has windows 8.1 I use only live preview.
you may have to address internet explorer/windows 8 or stick to live preview only.

Re: Script Error on Grid with "Linked Content"

Gandhi, thanks so much for writing... That doesn't thrill me, though (I use Working Preview all the time), but I guess others are having the problem. HOWEVER, I am using Windows 7 Pro (64-Bit) and I have Alpha Anywhere (v12 with latest patch), so I'm not sure your answer applies. Also, if others are having the issue, I can't believe Alpha isn't addressing it. Working Preview is a very important and helpful development feature. If I have to change Internet Options, I can do that, but I hope someone has a solution to get this feature back and working for me (and, again, Working Preview works fine, UNLESS there are linked grids).

      Thanks for your help.

the post is in version 11 forum, I automatically assumed you are talking about version 11. my mistake.
I did not hear any problems with version 12 with windows so far.
sorry again. hope someone will have right answer.

Working Preview Script Error on Grid with "Linked Content"

Note: I inadvertently posted this in the Version 11 section, so I am re-posting it in the Alpha Anywhere forum, because that's the version I am using. I apologize for the inconvenience

What Internet Explorer version do you have installed on that dev. machine? Try updating to IE 11

Re: Working Preview Script Error on Grid with "Linked Content"

Thanks for the reply... Currently, I do have IE 11 installed (any special settings required for Working Preview?), but it's not my default browser (FireFox is my default). I have never had IE as my default browser and I've had Alpha installed since version 9 and have never had (or, at least, noticed) a problem with Working Preview until yesterday. I hope I don't have to set IE as default as I really don't like it. Let me know if there's something I should try. Thanks, Phil

I also had all kind of weird stuff going on in working preview which were swiped when i updated to ie11 on that server. I did not set it as default neither but it does the job...I just tested (with latest pre-release though) and i see all linked content / row expanders correctly in working preview...
