Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Problem open / call Grid Component that used Store Procedure with Arguments

    Hi,

I'm facing problem with calling grid component that based on a store procedure and arguments.
I have a grid called "ProductMonthList" that used 2 arguments and that both of arguments value is using session variable. (see pic below)
    errorCallSPGrid2.png

When I'm trying to setting to open the grid from UX component with a button, it shows error as below.
    errorCallSPGrid.png
The arguments was not detected. If I'm trying to remove the arguments, the grid can be called.

Could someone help me analyze the problem? Is it because the using of Store Procedure or argument definition..
Error said it can't be found in arguments list. Where is the argument list?

    This is really urgent..
I really appreciate any help or input.

I think it is due to session variables as arguments. since sessions exist in the server, it is not present during the development time.
you can remove the session variables during development time, use some fixed value which will be equal to the session variables, if they were present, and test it out. if good then use the session variables and publish and test it out.

      Hi Gandhi,

Thanks for your help. I have tried change the argument definition from "Get value from variable" into "Always prompt for value", so it not using the session variable now. Unfortunately the error is still there.
Because of this problem, I can't pass the arguments when opening this grid from another component.

would you be willing to give more detail?
here is this grid that you need to show.
are you calling from a dialog (ux) or a grid where the selection is made then this grid is filtered and shown?
        thanks for reading

I'm calling from a UX component..
          I have done some trial:
          a. I delete all arguments, error is not shown, grid can be opened.
          b. If argument is defined, but not used in query, error not shown, but the arguments was not requested.
          c. Calling grid from a non UX component, but with using arguments in the query still shows the error.

very good you have done lots of work.
            would you try
keep the grid without any arguments.
create the ux define the fields to filter the grid ( arguments) and place a button
on the button onClick event define open the said grid and fill out the link
when the popup comes up fill any number fields to match to filter out.
run the dialog (ux) see it produces desired result. if it does well and good
            if not post back.

              ps:
during the define process in the dialog ( ux) you can set the filter instead of the link, if that is the way you want it. just follow the popups and help that follows.

In this way, the argument filter is substitute with the grid filter/link function, is this correct?
I will still need to pass the arguments to my store procedure. How can I do that?

would you explain more on this.
the stored procedure minus the arguments will build a very large grid, let's assume. and you want only a handful of records from that list.
the ux will filter it with out a problem.
                  or
do you mean the stored procedure with arguments will build a vary large grid and the ux will filter only a few from that using additional criteria?
or you are trying to build a report based on these to filter out to form the basis for a report?
                  I am not sure?

Re: Problem open / call Grid Component that used Store Procedure with Arguments

                    Jeff,
I would omit the argument definition from the grid and place code in the various server-side "OnSQL***" events as need to alter the generated sql, adding in the parameters, executing the sql and returning the result set to alpha, as documented in the "onSQLSelectQuery".

                    Govindan,
You can use session variables with Working Preview. You just have to temporarily add the initialization of your session variables to each grid's OnGridExecute that you will be going through in working preview (remember to delete it before live publishing). I think a recent change in Alpha makes it necessary to create the "session" pointer variable when using Working Preview. So, I do something like this in the OnGridExecute:

                    if .not. variable_exists("session")
DIM GLOBAL session as P '-- For debugging
                    end if
                    Session.A_session_var = "something"
