Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Access denied to our AA subscriptions - anyone else?

    Hi all

We have four development licenses and four server licenses - the development licences we are using the pre-release as we were told to by Alpha as it fixed a memory leak issue, but know we are locked out of development and fear the same now for our mission critical servers if we need to reboot. Anyone else having issues.

Not good, if our servers go down due to the license callback stuff by Alpha, things will get expensive very quickly from our clients, it's very worrying.

Is this pre-release 2040? Try rolling back to pre-release 2038 or 2036 so yo do not have any downtime, then send a message to Alpha

      Hi Pete

Been going through similar turmoil myself since 3pm yesterday, but in my case, my 400+ users started getting a "503 Service Unavailable" message. I contacted Alpha and Lenny responded back almost immediately, but was as perplexed as me as to what the problem was.

His initial idea was to have me try installing the latest pre-release build to see if that made the 503 message disappear, but it didn't. I've been down now for over 12 hours now and my users are screaming at me, and I have a feeling our problems are somehow related as they both seem to be "licensing" issues.

I'm sure the gang at Alpha Software are working hard to resolve this, but its killing me in the meantime.

Update: Apparently we are not the only ones having issues. Read this notice from Alpha:

No it was with the most current tested release.

Lenny had suggested I try installing the latest pre-release to see if it would solve the problem but it did not, so I rolled back to the normal version. I even tried rolling back to an earlier version, but the problem did not go away.

We are having the same issue with the licence going into demo mode and giving us 30 minutes. Lots of emails to Alpha and still nothing 24 hours later. Clients now threatening to sue me as they cannot work. 500+ users. Very poor response from Alpha. This is a MAJOR problem for us. Years to build a reputation. 10 minutes to lose it!

Tried the time zone activation and change of time server, still doesn't work. Come on Alpha we need a resolution NOW!

Re: Access denied to our AA subscriptions - anyone else?

This affected me as well. Fortunately, I was only down yesterday night. My users were getting the "trial period is over" error and when I attempted to activate the server I would get a ".net exception" error.

Of all the things that can screw up our setups, a licensing thing like this shouldn't be one of them, in the very least, the "trial period" should be set longer in case something happens again.

This really makes me wonder.... what happens if my application server loses its internet connection? Mine runs at my computer internally so it doesn't need an internet connection and our internet isn't the most reliable thing in the world.

I see it's corrected now - the process was totally unacceptable and have requested it never happen again.

I have never felt so vulnerable as a developer, I tell you, Lenny talks about server clocks etc. I say play in your sand pit stay out of our working environments they have nothing to do with Alpha, these are real businesses using real applications - do nothing that effects our clients or us in future.

Went in to show a potential customer a demo, and Alpha wouldn't open!

Alpha and I both lost a sale.

I also have an on-line app that is down and my customers are screaming. Only ones that are happy are the ones who stayed with V11.

How can a company have such good software and such terrible customer service?
