Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

In UX - find if I am sitting on a new record or queried record

I am in an UX component - how to find if the current record is 'new record' or queried record.
I am looking for a javascript solution - but xBasic ok too.

[Some other part of the logic (blackbox to me) has either queried the record or created a new record using '{dialog.object}.newRecord()' that I cannot change or put some flags. After that logic runs, I now need to find the above.]
    Thanks.

Have you thought of a SQL trigger you can write something to a field. Write a date created on creation and then check age.

Sorry not clear how you are creating records.

If you calling from a grid you can set the title of the window
        Entering data
        Editing data
depending on the mode you called the dialog ux component

Re: In UX - find if I am sitting on a new record or queried record

There is a UX method for determining if you're on a new record...

            Code:
            {dialog.Object}.getKey(alias [, row]);
            E.g.

            Code:
            {dialog.object}.getKey('tblcustomers');
Will return false if you're on a new record. If on a current record it will return the key value.

This can be used in Repeating Sections as well by using the optional row

This is detailed in the UX Methods area.

you can also have two static texts
              editing record
              entering record
and define show hide expression if the primary_key_id > 1
              no need for javascript

                  Thanks again.
dialog.isNewRecord will also work. I am assigning it to a field on UX and setting the field's "Calculated field expression" to dialog.isNewRecord. Thanks.

Re: In UX - find if I am sitting on a new record or queried record

You should already have a unique_id field in the dialog right? If the unique_id field has nothing in it, it's a new record, if it does have something in it, it's not.

The unique_id (or primary key) doesn't get set until the record is saved.

Thanks Jinx, good point. In my case the keys are already populated by the logic already by existing logic, even before I get to test them.

most of the people assume your primary key is an auto increment field, loos like it is not.
                        would you explain better.
what is your primary key and when you add a new record how do you assign the primary key?

Re: In UX - find if I am sitting on a new record or queried record

My primary key is Journal ID. Unfortunately it is a intelligent key - meaning part of the key conveys a meaning about what it is. Other part is incremented from the last value. So I build the key by concatenation of the two parts before inserting the record. The existing table does not have any other key, so keeping it. Changing that would mean changing 6 more applications - so we left it that way for now. I know...
