Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Date Calculation.

    Hi Guys,
    I think this should be a simply question but never the less has me stumped.
    I have two fields. "Ws_provided" is a date field and "EXP" also a date field.
    I need a way of calculating the EXP field as being "Ws_provided" + 21 days.
    I thought a calculated field expression of ws_provided +21 would work but I just get the date with 21 after it. eg 12/12/201421

    Any help would be great.
    Roland

    Is the calculation in JavaScript or Xbasic?

      Re: Date Calculation.

      This must be javascript because in XBasic this works...

      Code:
      dim mydate as d
      dim mynewdate as d
      mydate = {04/05/2014}
      mynewdate = mydate + 1
      ?mynewdate
      = {04/06/2014}
      There is an XBasic function named add_bus_days() as well.

      We know it's Javascript because the Calculated field expression is Client-side and so Javascript.

      For Javascript... (iow... why do I have to deal with dates again!!! Why are dates so horrible to work with!!!)

      This will give you complete control over the date.

      Code:
      var myDate = new Date({dialog.Object}.getValue('myDate'));
      myDate.setDate(myDate.getDate()+21);

      var curr_day = ('0' + myDate.getDate()).slice(-2);
      var curr_month = ('0' + (myDate.getMonth()+1)).slice(-2); //Months are zero based
      var curr_year = myDate.getFullYear();

      var newDate = curr_month + '/' + curr_day + '/' + curr_year;

      {dialog.Object}.setValue('myNewDate', newDate);
      Go and get the date you want to work with
      Add your number of days to it
      Now get the day, month, year of your new date so that you can "output" it correctly
      Remember that month is zero based (yikes)
      Remember that the day never contains the leading zero (yikes again)
      Now put it together in the format you want and write it out.

      You can use this in the Calculated field expression by putting the js code into a function and putting the function name into the Calculated field expression. There's help in the property for doing this. You can pass data to the function or just continue to use getValue.

      The other option is to use something like moment.js at momentjs.com

      It's brilliant. It's what should be build into Javascript.

          You can avoid manual parsing with the toFormat() method Alpha added to the Date object:
          Code:
          var myDate = new Date({dialog.Object}.getValue('myDate'));
          myDate.setDate(myDate.getDate()+21);

          var newDate = myDate.toFormat("MM/dd/yyyy");

          {dialog.Object}.setValue('myNewDate', newDate);

          What was your code? Can you copy it here? Where did you place it?

            Re: Date Calculation.

            If you're using the calculated field expression property, here's an example:

            I created a function, calcDate, as follows:
            Code:
            var calcDate = function (d) {
            	if (typeof(d) !== 'string') {
            		d.setDate(d.getDate()+21);
            		return d.toFormat("MM/dd/yyyy");
            	} else {
            		return "";
            	}
            }
            In my field that will be calculated (myNewDate), I put this in the calculated field definition:
            Code:
            calcDate(myDate)
            myDate is a textbox with the type "Date". It will be passed to the calcDate function in my calculated field definition as a date object. If myDate has no value, the value passed to the calcDate function will be a string --- this is why I have the typeof check in my if statement for calcDate.

            The attached example was built using the pre-release, so I've included screenshots in the zip below.
