The Alpha Software Forum Participation Guidelines
The Alpha Software Forum is a free forum created for Alpha Software Developer Community to ask for help, exchange ideas, and share solutions. Alpha Software strives to create an environment where all members of the community can feel safe to participate. In order to ensure the Alpha Software Forum is a place where all feel welcome, forum participants are expected to behave as follows:
Be sure all comments and threads you post are respectful. Posts that contain any of the following content will be considered a violation of your agreement as a member of the Alpha Software Forum Community and will be moderated:
If a thread or post is found to contain any of the content outlined above, a moderator may choose to take one of the following actions:
Moderators may also rename posts and threads if they are too generic or do not property reflect the content.
Moderators may move threads if they have been posted in the incorrect forum.
Threads/Posts questioning specific moderator decisions or actions (such as "why was a user banned?") are not allowed and will be removed.
The owners of Alpha Software Corporation (Forum Owner) reserve the right to remove, edit, move, or close any thread for any reason; or ban any forum member without notice, reason, or explanation.
Community members are encouraged to click the "Report Post" icon in the lower left of a given post if they feel the post is in violation of the rules. This will alert the Moderators to take a look.
Alpha Software Corporation may amend the guidelines from time to time and may also vary the procedures it sets out where appropriate in a particular case. Your agreement to comply with the guidelines will be deemed agreement to any changes to it.
Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting
Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.
When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.
The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.
When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.
A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.
If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.
When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.
Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

- Personal attacks, insults, or subtle put-downs.
- Harassment, bullying, threatening, mocking, shaming, or deriding anyone.

- Sexually explicit or violent material, links, or language.
- Pirated, hacked, or copyright-infringing material.
- Encouraging of others to engage in the above behaviors.
If a thread or post is found to contain any of the content outlined above, a moderator may choose to take one of the following actions:
- Remove the Post or Thread - the content is removed from the forum.
- Place the User in Moderation - all posts and new threads must be approved by a moderator before they are posted.
- Temporarily Ban the User - user is banned from forum for a period of time.
- Permanently Ban the User - user is permanently banned from the forum.

Re: Is there a limit to the number of useres in Alpha Anywhere Security
My side question would be, could Alpha Anywhere handle the "no limit" number of users logging in at the same time?Regards

Re: Is there a limit to the number of useres in Alpha Anywhere Security
Keith - you could ask this question about any web server - Alpha Anywhere or any other. The answer's about the same: Users are submitting a request for software and a database to deal with. Any "limit" about how much can be handled within any chosen second of the day is driven by the hardware and related facilities. Not picking on you Keith, but I don't understand why we continue to get questions about "can Alpha Anywhere handle xyz?"-Steve

Re: Is there a limit to the number of useres in Alpha Anywhere Security
unless I totally misunderstood keith question. he has a valid point I thought.
the question refers to, I thought, can the websecurity handle all those permitted users at the same time.
everytime a page or component or report is requested if it needs to go thru the websecurity, can alpha handle that permitted users?, that was the question, I thought.
I could be wrong or it is quite possible that the WAS can handle without any problem.
I was just hoping for an answer regarding websecurity not alpha's capacity to host many users outside of it.thanks for reading

Re: Is there a limit to the number of users in Alpha Anywhere Security
These things are easy to test with a little work on a system like loadimpact.com. You can test for up to a million concurrent users running any script, such as logging in. I am sure if we did this it would be the same as the last time I did such a test, it will max out around 30 concurrent users. "Concurrent" is a fluid number, and it depends on "how concurrent" the user set is and what they are doing. From my observation, the only way 300 can run concurrently is if they are "not all that concurrent".

Re: Is there a limit to the number of users in Alpha Anywhere Security
Here is the results of a quick 1-50 concurrent user test on my alphatogo.com/login.a5w page. This is just hitting the page, not logging in (I'd have to write a script to do that). This is the free test at loadimpact.com.
http://loadimpact.com/load-test/alph...44d4b574dd4d2f
Look at the graph. The green line is the number of users, using the right side scale. The blue line is the number of seconds it takes for the user to get a response from the application. Note that response time is about 2.5 seconds up through about 40 concurrent users, and then it rapidly deteriorates after that, taking 7-10 seconds to respond as the concurrent user count is between 40-50. Their free test only goes to 50 users. So based on this imperfect test, you can calculate how many instances you need to handle X concurrent users. I have done a paid test using a complete login script up through 250 users but that was several years ago and on an 18-instance application.

Any limitation on the number of uses working in the system at any given time is not from security.

Re: Is there a limit to the number of users in Alpha Anywhere Security
I can confirm Steve's findings on an application we've written to allow property tax owners to view their tax bills. The system response time to open the page and pull up a bill jumps from approximately 3 seconds at 28 users to over 17 seconds at 29 users and over 40 seconds at 50 simultaneous users. Thanks Steve for the info on LoadImpact...excellent testing tool. I was able to use the script recorder for Chrome to actually connect to the initial page, open the search and then perform a search for an actual tax bill. They have now taken the free site up to 250 simultaneous test users with up to 5 tests per month.Brad Weaver, President
