Deleting records from a grid

I have to delete records from a grid. Can the tbl.delete be used in an xbasic callback to delete records in a grid? I know there is a javascript method of doing this, but I need to disable the delete button under a condition (if the user tries to withdraw from class less than 2 days before it starts) and I know how to do this in xbasic, but not in javascript.

It's time to cozy up to Javascript, Rob.

Is the Delete button part of the Grid row?

Is the Class Start Date on the Grid as well?

Provide these answers and we'll put together a Javascript function that can be used on the Button's Enable expression. That's the best way to do this.

Ok, thanks for the push. The delete button is part of the grid row, as is the class start date.

I have the security groups set so I'm the only one who sees the button for now. I'd like to button to stay on the screen no matter what, but if it's less than 2 days before start date, I'd like my customers to see an alert box that says, "It's too late to withdraw from this class." (and then not run the delete code, of course)

Here's how you can get this done in Javascript. I really don't like working with dates in Javscript... so I use a library called moment.js. It's brilliant... makes manipulating dates so easy.

...so if I wanted to use xbasic to send a confirmation of deletion email, how do I do that, given that I'm doing the delete in javascript, and the possibility that we won't do the delete at all if it's too late?

I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to delete a record in xbasic. I think this may be a start:


dim tbl as P
tbl = table.current()
tbl.change_begin()
tbl.delete()
tbl.change_end(.T.)

I just have to figure out how to capture the primary key for the record and then delete only that record.

I do not work with dbf so I am not going to tell how to delete a record and lead you wrong way.
but to get the primary key
make the grid editable, select the select delete box to none.
add a button and call it withdraw or something else.
create a function on the onClick event and on that function put a debug(1) and run the grid.
and click the button select the e object you will see all the fields in that record in e._currentRowDataNew and e._currentRowDataOld
then you can do anything you want with it.

Add a button to the grid named "Delete" or similar. Add an onClick event, make it a callback to a function named deleteRecord. Check "compute current row data" if your grid is read-only. The deleteRecord function might look like this:
