Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Issue with simple image upload with phonegap on iOS and Android

Please help - Issue with simple image upload with Alpha Integrated Phonegap. There is only one UX component that phongap uses to build the app (also copied that UX to the server). I have the latest Alpha.
I am getting the error message "Image Upload Failed" after the spinner runs and just copies the new image to the panel (seems like it is copied to the panel- but unable to upload to server). The submit button stays grayed out.
The server name etc, is correct because I can update the name from say John to John1 - this enables the Submit button and saves the data. Only image has issues.
In Phonegap config setup - I selected the camera, the File and File Upload checkboxes.
I have attached the simple UX component and the config file.
The table is below for SQL server.
    CREATE TABLE [dbo].[EMPLOYEE_IMAGE](
    [ID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
    [FirstName] [nvarchar](50) NULL,
    [LastName] [nvarchar](50) NULL,
    [Image1] [image] NULL,
    CONSTRAINT [PK_EMPLOYEE_IMAGE] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
    (
    [ID] ASC
    )WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY]
    ) ON [PRIMARY] TEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY]

    GO
    Thanks!

I tried with the attached config file also. Did not work.

    config_xml_try2.txt

    INSERT INTO [dbo].[EMPLOYEE_IMAGE]
    ([FirstName]
    ,[LastName])
    VALUES
    ('John','Doe');
    INSERT INTO [dbo].[EMPLOYEE_IMAGE]
    ([FirstName]
    ,[LastName])
    VALUES
    ('Peter','Smith');

Re: Issue with simple image upload with phonegap on iOS and Android

I am not sure if this is security issue on my web server or the issue with the way I have programmed this simple UX component to load a image. Your help is really appreciated.

I got this error too "Image Upload Failed" when i initially moved the component into phone gap build. But after I altered the behaviour of the upload image button, it all changed. I still can't upload an image. Although photo is taken...

Re: Issue with simple image upload with phonegap on iOS and Android

Hopefully someone can tell us what the issue is when they get time (I know we have regular jobs too.)
As mentioned the picture is actually taken and I have the fully qualified path to the picture (jpeg file) on mobile. Don't know how to load it from there. The upload file on alpha - brings up the "explorer" (like windows explorer) to select the file to be uploaded - I do not need that, already have the file name.
At the very least if I can find out how to upload a picture that is on mobile device (I have the URI or the physical path on the mobile) - I can upload it to server and copy (update) it to database from there.
I am not looking for php option - only Alpha option for the upload.
(btw: I had similar upload question else where for video file or pdf file in another alpha forum thread.) You help is appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Issue with simple image upload with phonegap on iOS and Android

            I can add something new.

I used a debugger via phonegap and at the time when photo should be uploaded to the server into a temporary location a5saveImageFile.a5w (__a5saveImageFile.a5w) is being accessed. It is stuck in Pending for HTML5 option to upload image.

For Cordova, it is stuck in Pending for !gap_exec..

Thought I'd add the actual screenshot of what is happening when you try to upload the image taken by iPhone camera.

Re: Issue with simple image upload with phonegap on iOS and Android

Today's build has a fix for the image uploader with PhoneGap that will resolve your problem.

Apparently this was broken some time ago and we didn't know about it.
When you see something that you truly think is real a bug, file a bug report.
I know I'm really busy and I don't check the message board for bug reports.

Properly submitted bug reports that include a simple example component or code that reflects the problem normally get resolved quickly.

Great I'll keep that in mind.

Back on the subject of taking photo with mobile phone using Cordova. It still doesn't work with app server updated and new built loaded. I might need to file that as bug report as nothing changed with update. Same behaviour.

Just adding extra information I picked up via the debugger on phonegap.

It looks like something changed and AA is still using the old system call. This is using Build 3.3.0.

Using a build of 3.0.0 of Phonegap, i don't get that error. But all i see is the spilling waiting gif (of death) and Pending message in the query window.

Alpha Build 2118, Alpha PhoneGap Build using PhoneGap Version 3.3.0 does work with the Image Upload stuff... confirmed for both iOS and Android.

Make sure you check the Generate PhoneGap Asset Files and make sure you re-publish your component.
