Referencing the grid submit button to set focus via javascript

How would I set the focus to the submit button using javascript in a grid? I want to change the focus if the user presses tab while in a control in the grid.

How is your grid set up? Are you using an editable grid or a detail view?
Without knowing specifics, it will be hard to figure out the ID of the button. The javascript/jquery itself is pretty easy. It will be something like:

$('yourbuttonid').focus();

The grid is set up as editable. My goal is to change the focus to the submit button when the user presses the tab key in the last field of a new row.

Ouch, if it's the image (the little disk for saving) that you want to set focus to, good luck. For some reason, the guys at Alpha don't give everything an id, and that's one of the things without one, when viewed in firebug. Sometimes I can round my way about it but it's pretty difficult. Maybe someone else here can figure out how to do it.

If it's the submit button at the bottom of the grid, that one has an ID so shouldn't be very difficult:

var ele = $('{Grid.ComponentName}.GRID_PART.SUBMITBUTTON_BOTTOM');
$(ele).focus();

So, for the tab key to work you would want to put something like this in the onKeyPress event in the last field:

var keyCode = event.charCode || event.keyCode;
if (keyCode==9) {
var ele = $('{Grid.ComponentName}.GRID_PART.SUBMITBUTTON_BOTTOM');
$(ele).focus();
}

Otherwise, if you make your own "submit" button it's just as easy.

The button ID you supplied above is what I needed. Thank you for mentioning Firebug. I installed it and see how it will be immensely useful.

Regarding the tab key, I tried trapping it but it is apparently handled differently than other keys by the browser, which do trap properly.

It turns out using the enter key is a better solution because modifying the behavior of the tab key in a browser is not advised.
