Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Difficulties Uploading To PhoneGap Build

    Hello,

I'm experiencing some difficulty updating my PhoneGap applications this week. First of all I've tried using Alpha Builds 2118_4290 & 2128_4292.

I repeatedly receive an error regarding my password being incorrect. Usually after several attempts (without changing the password) it is eventually accepted.

Once my credentials are accepted, I often receive the error: App #xxxxx is unavailable Create new project? After this happens, I select No and am prompted with Retrieving apps pop up for several seconds and then the below error occurs:

After clicking OK on this error, the retrieving apps pop up refuses to close and I end up restarting Alpha.

Now I know that his may be an issue with the PhoneGap Build servers and might not have anything to do with Alpha, but I must have restarted Alpha three dozen times yesterday alone due to the above and am wondering if perhaps there is a more stable build I should be using, or if someone else has found a solution to these issues.

    Thanks,
    Justin Taylor

I am in the exact same situation, and getting the same messages. As a workaround - I zipped all the index and config file and all the related icons etc (complete folder), to upload it manually to phonegap - it did not help (although I was able to upload the zip files last month when I had similar issue.)

The PhoneGap Build web site is down. It has been having intermittent authentication problems since yesterday afternoon. The second error you are receiving is due the authentication failing when Alpha tries to retrieve your apps. They are not currently checking for this error but will add an error handler that will prevent this error from happening in the future.

Re: Difficulties Uploading To PhoneGap Build

Justin - Adobe is still having authentication issues. It fails about 70% of the time. The problem is that Alpha is authenticating with every API request to PhoneGap Build, so the odds on it failing at some point during the upload and refresh process is very high. I have found that you can just ignore the "p2.apps subelement not found" error and just keep on working. You don't need to kill the process and launch Alpha again.

I have not seen anyone else on PhoneGap Build's support page report the authentication issue. This is probably because most developers are either not using an IDE which uses the PhoneGap Build Developer API like Alpha does or they are using token authentication rather than basic authentication which may not be as susceptible to failures. Alpha is changing the authentication method to token, but I don't know for sure if the upload and refresh process will encounter less Adobe authentication failures.

I find that I do have to close/reopen Alpha(build 2128_4292) after the p2.apps error because the Retrieving your apps... popup that comes afterward never goes away until I do.

Thank you for the update Dave!

Next time you get the error, try opening the PhoneGap Build Project Settings and then click on the "Manage my PhoneGap Build Apps". If it fails, try it again. The "Please Wait" dialog does not behave like a modal dialog for me. It ultimately goes away for me after I get a successful list of apps or a successful upload/build.

Re: Difficulties Uploading To PhoneGap Build

Bob Moore has made significant changes which will help in this scenario. The changes will be in tomorrow's build.

If you can get through Adobe's authentication process, your credentials will now be saved. As an added benefit, this makes the APGB process faster as well. Getting iOS QRCodes will be really quick.

              Thanks Bob!
