Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Help sending multiple confirmation emails with new Order

    Hi
    In my scenario i have a read only grid, and a UX set to add/edit records into that grid. Backend is MariaDB.
    When editing a record all is well ( after submitting the ux is closed and im back in the grid).

    When entering a new record, i would like to save it to the db, close the ux, and popup a new ux that looks like:

    Order Number 1234567 successfully saved.
    [x] send customer confirmation form to [email protected]
    [x] send supplier request at [email protected]

    With two buttons, one to send everything as selected (then close) the other to close without sending.

    The customer confirmation form is a pdf report that is sent through email ( Mandrill )
    The send supplier request is a mail with no attachment with some specific fields from the newly entered record.

    With David's help, i can get the newly created OrderID and save it as a variable in the parent grid. This is then passed to the above UX that correctly displays that newly added OrderId. I need help with what to put in the button that sends, and should i bind the above selections+email addresses ( they all come from the new order ) to tables ( which i would like to avoid ) ?

    Thanks
    Jaime

    Re: Help sending multiple confirmation emails with new Order

    you can write your own email send function to do those two emails.
    I am assuming that the report pdf is created using filter method based on the orderID.
    I send email confirmation to my rep using the following, take a look and modify to your needs.

    Code:
    dim poID as n
    	poID = e._currentRowDataNew.ID
    	dim vFilter as c
    	vFilter = "purchase_order.id =" + poID
    	dim filePO as c
    	filePO = "c:\A5Webroot\Reports\PurchaseOrder_"+poID+"_"+date_format(date(),"yyyMMdd")+"_"+time("0h0m")+".pdf"
    	dim vReport as c
    	vReport = report.saveAs("purchase_order@[claretPOS]\claretpos.alb","PDF",vFilter,"",filePO)

    	dim vEmailContact as c
    	vEmailContact = e._currentRowDataNew.VENDOR_CONTACT
    	dim vEmail as c
    	vEmail = e._currentRowDataNew.VENDOR_CONTACT_EMAIL
    	if a5_email_valid(vEmail) = .F.
    		emailPO = "alert('email address for the vendor missing or invalid!');"
    		goto emailError
    		end if
    	delete emailMsg
    dim emailMsg as p
    emailMsg.to = vEmail
    emailMsg.from = "[email protected]"
    emailMsg.from_alias = "Govindan Gandhi"
    emailMsg.subject = "Purchase Order"
    emailMsg.message = "Please see the attached purchase order. Always use current vintage. And would you please send the notes on the items marked as notes needed."
    emailMsg.Attachments = filePO

    result = email_send2(emailMsg)
    if result = .T.
    	emailPO = "alert( 'The purchase order is emailed to " + vEmailContact +"@ "+ vEmail + "');"
    else
    emailPO = "alert('email was not sent');"
    end if
    emailError:
    'end
    while this is from a grid, the same works well in a dialog.

    edit:
    if the orderID is available in the parent grid why you need to have another dialog to popup? you can put a button in the grid itself that calls the email send function and passes the information. if they don't want to send they just don't click that button unless of course you need the freedom to send one or other or both emails then you will need the dialog.

    edit2:
    I do actually send email from a dialog to two recipients for gift card purposes, but I use dialog's own send email function and prepend with file information.
