Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    list box woes 2

    Why does selecting a row in a list box set the ux dirty flag to true? I have a parent ux with some panel cards with various fields to edit. in one panel card I have a list that is a list of related records which when I select take me to another ux (child) to edit the related record. When I select the row in the list it sets the flag for the parent ux to dirty.

    I have added a dialog reset in the onHide of the child window which resets the dirty flag. I just don't get why the flag is dirty by only selecting a row in the list.

      Yes that is unexpected behaviour...

      What happens if you change your List property,
      Data Binding > Updateable > to false

        Thanks for the suggestion, I have already tried that.

            Thanks Michael, that will help in the future. I took that list out of the main ux and put it in its own ux with no submit functions (being able to cut and paste controls sure is handy). Doing that actually solved some other code challenges I was having. I just call the ux that contains the list.

              I'm having the same problem. I've set the Submit-Reset buttons to only become active when a data-bound control is dirty however once I've selected an item in a list on a panel card it makes the UX component dirty and then I'm unable to close the form because I keep getting the message to submit or reset (which I now can't do because those buttons are working properly and have not become active.) I've even tried turning off the "Warn if component is dirty when closing" and still no luck. The lists I have are unbound and I've set them to not be updateable. I can't make them read-only because I have a button on each list row that I use to open another UX component based on the selected list row. When I set the list to read-only it doesn't the button can't select the row to read the primary key.

              I can't be the only person experiencing this so any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I've been working on this now for several hours!

                You could try either...

                Code:
                {dialog.Object}._isDirty = false;
                In an event off the List Control...

                or test against the data instead of the dialog...

                Code:
                dialog.isDataDirty = true

                  Re: list box woes 2

                  Thanks David. The concern I have is that if the form is truly dirty I don't want to reset it but if it is only dirty because of the click on an item in the list controls (which are read-only lists) then I would like to reset everything. Maybe I could check the status of whether the dialog is dirty as part of the initial row select event event in the list and then set the _isDirty property to equal the same state as before the button was clicked and row selected.

                    Yes... you're going to have to figure out what state you're already in and go from there.

                      I am having this problem too - I have only read only items on my UX, but clicking any list then gives the error to save or reset if you close the UX. I assume that I'm then going to have trouble later for a piece on this UX that I do want to be updateable??
