Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Problem running the Mobile Demo app

    Hi

Hopefully somebody can point me in the right direction here. I have tried to load the Demo Mobile application in AA 12 V2, and switched to Lesson 16 in the Web Projects Control Panel. At this point AA hangs at 10% and a Windows Installer runs.

Obviously, AA is trying to install something via the OS (Windows 7 x64). I suspect SQL Server or MS Access files as this happened when I tried to previously create an Access Database connection ? But how do I know what is needed so I can resolve it?

I have attached a screenshot just in case.AAInstallcapture.png

    Thanks

    Andy

Is appears that you need the access runtime library.

Re: Problem running the Mobile Demo app

      Hi

It seems as if this was not the cause. I installed the Access Runtime 2010 even though I have access 2013 installed but still, everytime I try to load the Lesson 16 Web Component the Windows Installer runs.

In the Windows 7 Even Viewer, Application Log, I get a Warning :

Detection of product '{90120000-0030-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}', feature 'ProductFiles' failed during request for component '{0638C49D-BB8B-4CD1-B191-050E8F325736}'

      Any ideas would be appreciated

      Cheers

      Andy

If you upload the sample then I can try in my PC to see what is the issue.

          Hi Andrew,

Installing different versions of Access / Office is not a good idea.
According to your error message, I guess there is sth. wrong with your Office installation.

I would try to uninstall all of the MS Office related applications and reinstall them from scratch
          OR
You can try to repair your office installations from "programs and features"

BTW I don't think, AA will depend on Access or Access runtime, you can uninstall them if you don't need.

          Regards

          Cemo

            Hi phan9413

The sample is the mobile application sample that is installed by default with AA

            Cheers

              Thanks cemo

I will try repairing Office and removing the Access runtimes - I certainly don't want them installed if they are of no use. It's a little strange that the AA demo relies on anything based around Microsoft Office though?

              Cheers

Re: Problem running the Mobile Demo app

I can run the demo mobile app without any issue. Do you run Alpha Five as administrator, maybe that might help.

Re: Problem running the Mobile Demo app

                  Hi all

Okay, tried with Administrator. I have even tried uninstalling the Access Runtime, and also re-installed Alpha 12, but still having problems running any demo in Alpha 12!

Forgetting about the Mobile demo application, I have now loaded the 'SunriseProperties' demo desktop application and also a new application from scratch. No matter what I do, as soon as I tried to set up an Access Connection string, Windows Installer tries to run and Alpha just hangs (see attached screenshot). The only way I can stop it is to kill the Windows installer task in task manager, which crashes Alpha Anywhere.

                  alpha_accessdb.png

Surely there is someone at Alpha that can point me in the general direction of what exactly Alpha is trying to install? Is it the Access runtime? If so, what version?

Don't get me wrong, I know there is something wrong at my end but I am struggling to understand what it might be?

Any assistance will be VERY gratefully received.

                  Cheers

                  Andy

p.s. I can connect with no problem to my Postgres back end, so I know it is not an issue connecting with RDMS's in general.

Re: Problem running the Mobile Demo app

Let me share with you my PC environment that might help as a reference:-
                    Windows 7 32 Bits
                    Office 2010 Pro Version
                    Alpha 12.

All installation success and run demo no issue at all.

It appears to me that maybe your office version is not the pro version, Just my guess. Hope it help.

                      Hi Phan9413

Thanks for your reply. I have Windows 7 Pro x64, Alpha 12 and Office 2013 Pro, although I can't imagine why the version of MS Office would cause any of these issues? It seems as if Alpha 12 needs something in particular to run with MS Access databases (e.g. Northwinds), but it isn't clear exactly what it is missing. Incidentally, I can open Northwinds database with MS Access 2013 no problem, and I can connect to a Postgresql Database with Alpha Anywhere DAO no problem.

                      Cheers

In that case, I believe it must be due to Office 2013 issue, If you try use Office 2010 I believe it will solve your issue. Frankly I do not know why but it works for me.
