Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How To Set Grid Row Height Back To One Row

    I have a grid that dynamically increases or decreases the row height to display all of data in the field. Now, I want to stop this behaviour and make all rows one cell high.
    I must have set this up somewhere once upon a time but I cannot seem to figure out how to undo it and make the grid height one row high only.

    I can't believe it should be this hard, but of course, I just can't find where to set this grid property. Can anyone help with this?

    I do not know, but did you set the column width to be fixed at some number?

      I do have Grid Body Can Scroll and Fixed Column Widths for the grid, but even if I remove those and set the field width using Cell In-Line Properties, it still gives me multiple rows in the field.

        Why not just leave without any width anywhere?
        The grid column will widen or become narrower not taller or shorter

          What I am attempting to achieve is to have all rows uniform height.
          I want the column widths set so that I can display all the fields I need to be shown in the grid without horizontal scrolling.

          Then I wanted to hover over the desired field and get a detail popup window with the entire contents of that field. ie) the rest of the field that is not visible in the grid column.

          Am I making sense? Essentially, I want a column to just display the data that it can fit into its defined width. The popup will display all the data in the column.

            Re: How To Set Grid Row Height Back To One Row

            Again, I do not know.
            Grid is just a table. Total width of the grid is determined by how many letters in total and distributed between the columns and spaces in between them.
            If you know the amount of data, then you can play with the width.
            I would imagine if you set each column to the maximum you need as long as you don't exceed the screen width, then I think it should work.

              No, that won't achieve what I'm trying to do.

              Say, I have a field that has 1000 characters in it. On the grid I want to display the field as say 50 characters wide. The other 950 characters run off the field.
              Now, I want to hover over that field and popup all 1000 characters in the field.

              I'm going to create a new grid to play around with this some more, it's possible I simply can't do what I'm attempting to do. But I'd be a bit surprised.

                Hi

                I have just had a go at this and put the following CSS in to the inline style of the label property

                white-space: nowrap;
                display:block;
                overflow: hidden;
                text-overflow: ellipsis;
                width:75px;

                you will probably need to experiment with the width property

                If you then put the field name in to the bubble help this should display all text when you hover over it(not sure how it will look with a large amount of text)

                  nope.
                  you can do it in an updatable grid.
                  I will test in a read only grid, let you know soon.
                  edit: can be done in read only grid too.

                    Thanks David,

                    I've played around with lots of these CSS properties but I've had no luck.
                    I might have to create a new grid from scratch just to see if there is something buried somewhere that's overriding settings.

                      you need to create one field to show another one to show one on demand.

                        Sorry Ghandi, I'm not understanding your reply. I have the popup window working as I want. The issue I'm having is trying to make the grid rows only one row high. Unfortunately, they are automatically expanding in height to display the entire content of the cell. Thanks.

                            Thank you very much for taking the time to produce the videos, that makes perfect sense to me now.

                            Going to play with my grid and see if I can duplicate what you did using extra SQL expression based fields. This is the part I was missing.
                            I'll report back after I test it out.
