Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Grid - styling CSS

    Does anyone have experience to use their own styling/css of grids? For a project I need the styling of grids to look like this;

    Re: Grid - styling CSS

It will take you a while, but you can do it. You can start with a blank style in the Edit > Web Style Builder or write the css in Notepad from scratch. I would use the later method, as the Web Style Builder can be overwhelming. You would create a representative component such as a grid and then use Firefox's Firebug to examine the css of the elements you want to modify. Your example is very minimal design, while Alpha's components have a lot more detail, so you would be setting css to display:none in many cases to make extraneous borders disappear, etc. If you do not know css, it would be a good idea to study up, especially on "inheritance". Inheritance can reduce your work load by knowing how css set at one level (like "body") will be adopted for other elements.

Thanks for your feedback. I know CSS very well... and I know this would take a while to complete. maybe someone had a good starting point, etc... to save time. The should be a CSS/theme library for more styles than shipped with AA. I would be happy to pay for a good starting point....

I agree Knut. I would LOVE for somebody to step in and create additional pre-made themes. I don't know CSS and truthfully don't have the time to learn it…...but I would be very willing to buy a theme that somebody has developed. I know there have been several threads on this already….so it seems like the market is there….but nobody has taken the step to make it happen. Alpha is missing the boat on this….they used to offer feature packs for V11…..maybe a theme pack would be a nice option for V12?

Its something I have wanted to do but low on the list. I would like to have a "flat" component style to match the new website trend. Flat is minimal UI, no shadows, special color pallet, etc.

Exactly. This is a big issue - yet another blind spot I'm afraid...

I agree, that would be good. But I do find the flat styles to be really ugly, in general. They all seem to be built with Mobile in mind.

well.. I think it will be wrong to experiment with AA to use Kendo UI because of this.... Its just to turn up and do the work.

How would you do that? Alpha's css designations are completely different than any on the planet. They would not match Kendu's css tags.

You use Kendo UI to build your frontend. You do not need Alphas css.
All Kendo UI widgets works with Alpha (or should I say xbasic).

Then I imagine you wouldn't even use Alpha, just Kendo since it is a complete front end.

No, Kendo UI is just frontend you need also backend. Of cource if you build just native mobile then Kendo UI is almoust enough.

But if you have Kendo UI then you can use grid or file uploads or other widgets if you need something extra features with Alpha.
