I have an image control on a UX component that I wish to use to display any of several images in a folder. I determine the filename in an XBasic callback function after doing a table lookup. What Javascript command should I send back to the client that assigns the image to the control? Thanks in advance.

Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting
Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.
When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.
The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.
When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.
A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.
If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.
When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.
Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How can I display an image dynamically?

Re: How can I display an image dynamically?
Unless you refresh the browser, you need to use javascript to update the "inner html" of the target image control.
return something like this: = "$('myimage').innerHTML = '<img src=\"/"+folder_if_any+"myimage.jpg?"+rand_string(12)+"\"></img>'"
Where 'myimage' is the name of the DIV around the image control

Re: How can I display an image dynamically?
Sorry, let me finish out the example.
First, you don't need to use an Image control but you can if you have some purpose for it other than displaying the image returned from the Ajax callback.
1. Add a Free-form Container to your UX.
2. Add this to the Free-form container's layout: <div id="myimage"></div>
3. Write what you need to in the callback to return this: $('myimage').innerHTML = '<img src=\"images\\myimage.png?"+rand_string(12)+"\"></img>'
My example has the image in a "images" folder, and note the double backslash between folders.
If you need the image control for some reason (like if it is tied to the database), click the Hide for the Image Control, then go to the FreeForm Container and insert the hidden image control similar to this: <div id="myimage">{image:IMAGE_1}</div>

Re: How can I display an image dynamically?
If you're using a non-data-bound image control then I'd set it as Static and take note of the Id property. The Id property, unless you've renamed it will be something like IMAGE_1. When the control is rendered Alpha gives that control an Id like DLG1.V.R1.IMAGE_1
Let's assume your XBasic callback function is named setImage and the image name you've retrieved myImage.jpg
Your callback would look like this...
function setImage as c (e as p)
dim imageName as c
imageName = "myImage.jpg"
setImage = "$('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.IMAGE_1').src = '" + imageName + "';"
end function

Re: How can I display an image dynamically?
Thanks David, I knew there was a way to use the ID rather than a DIV around the component, but could not remember. David's method is likely better if you do start with an Image Control because you are modifying just the SCR of that image control, rather than totally replacing the full Image Control with just a static Image it as my DIV method would.

Re: How can I display an image dynamically?
Sorry but I am new to Alpha Five'm trying to open a URL in a field "Image - Data Buond" but I did not understand where I have to write "setImage" function
My code is in server/side:
function onDialogInitialize as v (e as p)
setImage(e);
end function
function setImage as c (e as p)
debug(1)
dim imageName as c
'imageName = "myImage.jpg"
imageName = "$('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R{grid.rownumber}.LINK_FOTO').id"
setImage = "$('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R{grid.rownumber}.LINK_FOTO').src = '" + imageName + "';"
end function
My field is called LINK_FOTO and contains the path to the "URL" file, I did think that It do convert automatically ritch with the image as is done in the Grid but it does not
Someone can help me?
Thank corchi

Re: How can I display an image dynamically?
Hi Steve, Thanks for all your help. I am almost there, but I still see broken images. I changed the code to reflect HTML instead of XHTML, but still it didn't work for me. I have not yet tried David's option.
On a side note, I have a business proposition for you. I am having fits trying to publish my app and get it working correctly on my client's Windows 2003 server. Live preview on Chrome works fine (at least what actually does work). He wants to demo to his customers, but we can't get it to run properly. We had Max Hammond look at it earlier today but without success. My client wants me to ask you if you would agree to publish our app on your box and run it just to isolate our issue to publishing or code. He is willing to pay for your services of course. If you're willing, I will zip up the app and send it to you via Google Drive with instructions. Thanks.
