Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Scale background Image

Trying to use absolute positioning in a UX. The background image is too big. How can I scale it down?

    Re: Scale background Image

In the Absolute Layout Container, you have Container Width, Container Height.

Are you saying that you can use a PDF as a "background image" on a UX?

            Re: Scale background Image

Yikes... you said image... not PDF. PDF is not an image.

When you go through the process of selecting an image, the PDFs are filtered out of the list (e.g. Image in Web or Project Style... Select). You can't select a PDF here.

I can't see where the docs say PDFs are allowed... where is that info and I'll test some more.

I was way off on the Container Width and Height... that's for the Container Width and Height... go figure... not for the image.

For images... I can't see an "built-in" property for setting the backgroundSize of a background image. So... we'll need to get it done ourselves.

In your UX onRenderComplete you can put something like this...

            Code:
            $('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.CONTAINER_1').style.backgroundSize="100% 100%";
Change "CONTAINER_1" for whatever your Absolute Layout container variable name is.

This stretches your image to the width and height of the container.

Well I noticed in playing with the report writer that there were a few options, something like stretch, contain, and something else. When I select different ones in the report writer it changes how the background is displayed in the container. I went back to my ux and I can get to where I have those options I change them and they don't work. I cannot get the image any smaller than 25 by 25 inches no matter what I select. Thanks for setting my thinking straight with the PDF. I had never thought it out before.

How do you get to the stretch, contain and other image options in a UX for a background image of an Absolute Container?

Post your UX, or a simple version of it, with the image you're working with. Having an example of what you're working with will take the guesswork out of this process.

                  Re: Scale background Image

When you select the image for the container under the preview window there are three choices (Best Fit)(Absolute)(Stretch)

                    Re: Scale background Image

I believe Best Fit, Absolute, and Stretch are not used in this process.

If you were to add a non-data bound Image control, from the Other Controls list, and select an image, and then get that images width and height, you'll see the width and height flow back into Image Style property... but width and height are the only settings that come through.

The background image for the Absolute Layout container doesn't have any exposed properties. I believe the idea is that you create an Absolute Layout container of a specific width and height and, if you want a background image, then that image needs to be the same size. IOW, you need to size it. Or, size it using Javascript and style.

Well this should give a better idea of my problem.

In the report writer these choices work.
