Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Possible to show the + sign of row expander in different colors?

    Hi
    I would like to show the + sign for the row expander in two different colors:
    - if there is anything in the child grid then the + sign will be green
    - otherwise (there is no record in the child grid ) the + sign will be default (black)

    Since i know it will be complicated to check on the child records availability, i can add a field to the parent grid with a flag if there are records in the child

    Thanks
    Jaime

    if you could use the showRowExpanderIcon action then the icon itself will not be there if there are no records to display. (look under server-side events)
    that probably easy to achieve and will look better in my opinion.
    thanks for reading

      thanks gandhi
      Thought about that, and i agree that it will look much better, but then i have the problem as to how to add a new row to the child grid.
      The child grid is a simple editable grid (with no detail view) and currently it shows 1 or 2 empty rows to enter new records...

        Hi,

        I'd love to know how to do exactly the same thing however what I do is get a count of the number of records in the child and display that in the column to the right of the "+", not pretty but it works. Still I'm looking for something better.

        Cheers

          Re: Possible to show the + sign of row expander in different colors?

          Here's one solution... it's a tiny bit clunky... but it's all client-side so...

          All this code goes into the main parent grid... client-side events... and it's based on the fact that you said you're going to add a field representing rows of data in the child grid. In my example I've put the number of rows into this field... so it's either 0 or greater. If you're just using a logical flag then change the code accordingly. My example also has MobBlue set as the Grid style... and I'm replacing the row expander icon with MobOlive... just 'cause it's simple to do.

          In onRowRender...

          Code:
          var orderCnt = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','CUSTORDERSCNT',e.rowNumber);

          if (orderCnt > 0){
          	$('{Grid.ComponentName}.R'+e.rowNumber + '.__ROWEXPANDER').src = "css/MobOlive/Expand.png";
          }
          In afterRowCollapse...

          Code:
          //place this Javascript in your code, and then reference the rowNum variable.
          var rowNum = {Grid.Object}._selectedRow;
          var orderCnt = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','CUSTORDERSCNT',rowNum);
          if (orderCnt > 0){
          	$('{Grid.ComponentName}.R' + rowNum + '.__ROWEXPANDER').src = "css/MobOlive/Expand.png";
          }
          In afterRowExpand...

          Code:
          var nbrRows = ({grid.Object}._rowsInGrid);

          for (i=1;i<=nbrRows;i++){

          	var orderCnt = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','CUSTORDERSCNT',i);
          	if (orderCnt > 0){
          		$('{Grid.ComponentName}.R' + i + '.__ROWEXPANDER').src = "css/MobOlive/Expand.png";
          	}
          }

          //place this Javascript in your code, and then reference the rowNum variable.
          var rowNum = {Grid.Object}._selectedRow;
          var orderCnt = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','CUSTORDERSCNT',rowNum);
          if (orderCnt > 0){
          	$('{Grid.ComponentName}.R' + rowNum + '.__ROWEXPANDER').src = "css/MobOlive/Collapse.png";
          }
