Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Internet Service Providers Blocking a5w pages?

I've had some of my customers that call because when they put my web address in their browser address line, the address is not found. My IP/server technician just told me that he is having to have them call their internet service providers to get them not to block the .a5w extensions. He said one of my customers was told 'tough luck' by his provider. Has anyone else encountered this issue and is there something I can do in Alpha to avoid this issue?

      ..

There is the option to change the A5 page extensions to php [] even any name you like, after that your have to recompile your complete apps and publish.

      Hope that helps

Ok, Eric, so I see where you can change the page extensions on the server settings. I'm assuming you would have to do that both on development machine and application server. But forgive me for being a dummy, what does 'recompile' consist of ? And how much potential havoc can doing something like this to my project cause?

The only diff. is that the WAS needs to know what to look for [xxx.a5w] becomes [xxx.php] "recomplie" is nothing more a safety eq. if you re-publish A5 will do that for you. tgest it very well on your development machine create a copy of your webapp folder and test it again.
<<And how much potential havoc can doing something like this to my project cause? >> Ther is no change to the content of grid and pages.
I have never done or tried that your the first !

I have a feeling it might cause a nightmare to change the extension for the pages because I have hundreds of components that might refer to pages...

I forgot of course perhaps you have to change/adapt your code anywhere where you call an include file or a response redirect to an A5w page it needs to know what the new page name is.

                  Carol,

Are they getting a 404 error ? Did those customers disable their internet security software on their PC ? It would be interesting to know what a tracert result would be for a "blocked" page. Have you talked to Lenny about this ?

Frank's idea could be correct perhaps it's one or two customers having that issue for that you have to modify your app structure extensions that would lead to complete madness tomorrow there something else.
An extra check is that you re-ask the ISP that is actually might be blocking for what reason and don't agree with the answer you received earlier.

I hope for your sake Frank is correct and contact Lenny if needed.

Carol, I have never seen anything like this in practice for any specific page type. It would be helpful to get more information from your customers' ISPs. Specifically, what exactly is being blocked, are they using whitelisting or blacklisting, and why is it being done? While technically possible with some filtering devices, filtering based on a resources file extension is counter-productive.
