Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Where is the database for a Alpha Anywhere Mobile App?

I am just trying to make a very very simple mobile app but I am getting stuck on where the database is.
I develop an app. I start with a dbf file in Alpha Anywhere.
I then go to Web projects.
    I make the UX file.
I bind it to the dbf file.
    I publish to my Zebrahost.
I publish to the Phone gap.
    I get the qr code.
I scan and install the app.
I open the app and manipulate it. But when I close it and reopen it nothing was saved.
The database on the Zebrahost was never touched.

I'm looking to see if my logic is off. Am I missing a major step.

Other info. I looked on the play store and downloaded AlphaRun. Someone put it there. I installed it and added an URL link. I completely closed out of it and opened it up and my link was still there. My question is does everyone who runs the app get their own database? Is the database on my phone? Or am I using a database on a hosted website and I am the only one using this product?

    Both Questions kinda go together.

I am kinda just looking for direction.

    Thanks for your time.

    Chris

Re: Where is the database for a Alpha Anywhere Mobile App?

Did you install the Application Server on your machine at Zebrahost, started it and also published the apps to the Application Server and put the DBF files from your local machine to your Zebrahost server [ in the correct place ]. If not then that is the first thing you have todo.

Regarding Databases SQL or DBF your mobile apps needs to know where the WAS resides.

Yes the Application Server is installed on our hosting at Zebrahost. I have web database websites I use there. I put the database in the folders for the databases on Zebrahost.

Before you create the phonegap app - if you just open the UX directly in your browser, does the data save there? If not, maybe you don't have a proper alias defined? If so, something might be wrong in the phone gap build?

It is interesting you mentioned Alias. I don't think Zebrahost gave me instructions on Aliases. This is my setting [PathAlias.ADB_Path] = c:\a5v12\data. Do you know if that is correct for Zebrahost? I have working web applications using that I believe.

Well, if your web app works using that alias and your mobile app's db is in the same location it should work. Test the UX directly from the browser w/o the PhoneGap build.
