Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

XBasic function in the UX control??

Hope someone can help .... where I can call an xbasic functions defined in the code area of the UX control it fails. I created a new function in the normal control panel (i guess this is called global functions) and the UX control was able to find that one .... can anyone shed some light on this? I'm having a hard time understanding where things should be defined for web components .... I tried looking through forum and doc, but couldn't find anything.

    Thanks in advance ....

I don't completely understand what your question is but I'll give it a shot ....

You first write your xBasic code in the xBasic Functions screen. Then, for example, you can create a button in your UX that calls that xBasic function via an ajax callback.

Is that the information you're asking?

Thanks for the reply Mike .... your on the right track .... I created a list control with and xbasic field (executes xbasic) ... but when calling the function I put in the xbasci function section, it could not find .... I put the function in the global function area and it found it there ... does that make sense?

Re: XBasic function in the UX control??

When you say you "put the function in the global function area" you mean in the "Control Panel" in the 'Code' tab? ...ajax callback should work the same.

Are you testing this function on your live server? ...if so you need to publish the AEX file. Alternatively you can test in Live Preview with out publishing.

Re: XBasic function in the UX control??

Mike .... yes ... "control panel->code->functions". And yes, I know that if I even want a chance of using on live system the aex has to be published with it(if i build myfunction is in the AEX). But if I can execute all my functions from the AEX(global functions) .... what is the point of the "UX->Code->XBasic functions" section when creating a UX?? when I put a function there ... what uses it? Didnt work when I called from a control on the UX ..

          Thanks again

That xbasic functions are the ones you write when you define an Ajax callback
When you define an Ajax callback and create an internal functions, you define there and that component uses that.

If you want a user defined function (UDF) to be used everywhere the you will define in the regular control panel code section and ask alpha to make AEX then include in the component and publish it along with other files.

Thanks Gandhi!! .... so can it be said that the code section(which includes area for Javascript functions and Xbasic functions) is only used for AJAX callbacks?

So where would the javascript functions that are in the same code section be called from? sorry for digging, just trying to get my head around ... :)

Ohhhh ... and if ajax callback execute on the server and have access to the user defined functions in the AEX, why would i use this section to define stray functions?

.... anyway ... i called them stray functions (my term) ... because they are not a part of the standard UDF AEX. The point is for re-use .... why would I create a functions under the code section of the UX component if ajax callbacks execute on the server and the standard UDF AEX library is available for all?

Re: XBasic function in the UX control??

I am not sure how well I can answer that.
The general functions are just general purpose, the ones in the grid are custom meant to use the parts from the grid.
So in UDF you can pass predetermined number of arguments, in the grid function you can as many as you want or as little,
Create reports and attach to emails etc., etc., I can go on and on. Will be pointless after awhile.
I deleted the one regarding javascript, may be that's for another day or you will find out the way did,
                              .
