Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    User registration

I have just made a user registration UX and it works exactly like I want in the working preview. However it doesn't work at all when I publish it.

It's like the server side events are never fired. Has anyone else ever had this problem?

I've done these before and never had a problem but this is the first time I used the UX template for user registration.

server side or client side events?

can you give more detail of what is actually happening...

do you click a button and the page just sits there doing nothing?

have you tested in different brands of web browser?

      Re: User registration

Thanks Michael, I'm using the UX template for user registration without data binding because I need to do a lot of setup for a user so I'm saving the user data to a mysql table before I save the login data. Then I'm sending the user back to the login screen.

It works perfectly when I run it in the working preview. I then publish it to the web and run it. After I hit the submit button nothing happens. No data written to the sql and no security data. It's like the aftervalidate event never fired.

I even put the code in the validate event with the same results, it runs perfectly in the working preview and not at all on the web. In all my days with alpha I've never seen anything like this.

I get the same results with IE and Chrome.

I believe that your local databinding doesn't exist live. Look at where the data is being submitted.interesting that it "works" locally. I would follow that for answers.

          Re: User registration

Good observation, however, I didn't use any data binding. I hand coded the sql statements to write the data because I have a lot of other data for the user in other tables than the user table.

That's why it's so baffling because if the server events fire the data would be written.

            Re: User registration

In desperation I added e.javascript = alert to see if the event was firing. I commented out all my code. The alert indicated that the aftervalidate event was firing.

I then uncommented my code and forgot to remove the javascript. It ran perfectly and the redirect kept the javascript from executing. so I'm leaving in the js and calling it good.

            Thanks for all your help.

Thanks for letting us know! I for one know how a comma or an apostrophe can ruin everything.

                Why did it work locally?

                  Re: User registration

Excellent question. Also why did giving a value to e.javascript make it work. The line of code that assigns the value to e.javascript never even executes because it occurs after an e.url is executed.

Ones of lifes deep mysteries I suppose. Alpha works in mysterious ways.

                      Re: User registration

True. If I took out the e.javascript line and it failed then we would know it's a bug, but I'm not gonna do it. I doubt it would fail but I'm still not gonna do it.

This mystery will remain unsolved since I'm trying to wrap this up in time for the start of the NFL season.
