Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Print, email reports work in Live Preview, NOT on Android phone

Using PhoneGap, I am able to store data and photos in MySQL db, and in Live Preview I can now generate a report of those 4 selected records, 2 to a page, and send that report through email (using Mandrill, for those who have been helping me with THAT problem). But when I try to do the same thing on my (SG4) phone, the report never completes, not does the email (not a surprise on the email, if we assume that the report never actually completed being built). And, yes, I have published to the (ZebraHost) server. Any ideas on why the inconsistency? And of course a solution or a lead would be appreciated.

Another possible piece of the puzzle: I am able (on Live Preview) to see the record detail, but the photos, one per record, that I know are in the DB do not show up. Anywhere, except when I take them with the phone and then immediately display them. The size of the photos, according to the db records, are between 2.3K and 4.2K. are there dimension issues on the virtual 8/12 by 11 report page? Just guessing now.

Re: Print, email reports work in Live Preview, NOT on Android phone

Well, solved the "photo not printing even on Live Preview" problem, with Frank's (Clipper87) solution in the Image in MySql table not dispaying in Report" (sic) thread ( but I can't for the life of me figure out why this fails (hangs?) on the it permissions? I was able to create the db records on the phone, I should be able to report on them, right?

There are a LOT of pieces to Alpha Five...wish I could debug PhoneGap like I can Live Preview, that is one great thing :)

Re: Print, email reports work in Live Preview, NOT on Android phone

Where I normally start when I encounter issues that I can't debug directly in Alpha is by adding a simple alert, commenting out the code that would generate the report and e-mail it. Make sure the event is firing on the mobile device. If it does, I try to capture the error inside of the code that is generating the report and e-mailing it and return it in a javascript alert box and proceed from there.

Re: Print, email reports work in Live Preview, NOT on Android phone

Thanks, Josh. I'm basically using the sample code used in the Mandrill demo, and am using Mandrill itself, at least right now. I'm pretty sure the event is firing because I get the 'Working...' message at the appropriate place for progress messages, and I left error alerts where they already were (mostly db or record not found error alerts.) But I will add more alerts to help figure this out - thanks again for that.
