Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Form Data Submitted to Database

My CRM software has users who get leads from their website. What I'd like to do is create a web form that they can copy and paste onto their website and the action page would go to a a5w page on my server which would call a function which would collect the data and then submit it to my database.

My first question is: Can I customize the format that is sent to me on the submit form? Like JSON? I have never used an action page this way. I'm guessing I will just be able to pull the http headers and body and then can reformat it, but if I can save steps that would be great. And maybe I'm totally wrong and can't do this at all, and if so I would like to know that too.

My Second Question is About Security: Each form of the code, will have data like an ID and business name of who the form should be submitted to. Is that secure enough? Do you have suggestions of making it more secure?

Thanks, really appreciate feedback and/or insight.

    -Lily

Would it be simpler to embed a UX on an a5w page and they could put that in an iframe on their website? The UX would be a submit only form.

I'm missing something - where does custForm come from?

And at the end of the day he has an a5w page, so he comes full circle.

Lily - could your users include your A5W page as the contents of an iFrame on their site?

Re: Form Data Submitted to Database

Hey Guys, thanks so much for the input. I've done iframes before but was hoping to skip that because it requires my a5w page to load every time their website page loads (which hosts the iframe). If I could only have it load when the user submits the form that would be ideal and is why I was thinking I could do a post of the form.

So if my way is crazy... Is there a way to do a cached a5w page that's client side, until the form is submitted (I don't know if that's possible)? This way there is less server activity. :-/

custForm is on your customers website. It can actually be the current form. You just map inputs on the form to columns in a database.

My CRM software has users who get leads from their website.
So by using this method you don't need an iFrame, each instance can be styled to match the website page, or use an existing page.
I guess there will be less server traffic.
Agreed it is an A5w page to which Alpha has written the Ajax. Their whole page is an A5w page no iFrame.

                  Hi Michael,

Yes, your way doesn't require an iframe but I could only use that page on an alpha server. My users don't have that setup. So if I did it your way, I would still have to use an iframe. Your way just skips having to use an alpha component but doesn't solve my problem of getting it on other people's websites.

                  I appreciate it anyway.

I was suggesting that your customer has one page of their website that is hosted on your server. The style of the page is totally unchanged. I think you can disguise this with a vanity URL.

You can connect to your customers SQL databases with Alpha. So if they store the form data in SQL no problem.

You can also use flowheater to fetch it periodically. Again they need to store the form data in SQL.
