Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    WebSecurity SQL tables

Creating a Web app Security logins are working fine on my laptop but when I publish to my Dev Server, they dont work. My first time working with security, so not sure but I may have missed something.

On my laptop, I am using SQL files for the Security Table Type (rather than DBF). After publishing to the Webroot on my laptop, the app starts in the browser and login works fine. Both the dbf & dbp files are in the Webroot plus the Websecurity SQL tables were created (by Alpha) on my SQL database located on my laptop. The security works well on my laptop.

Next, I published to my Dev Server. The Logins on the Dev Server give me a Login information incorrect message. Looking in the Dev Servers Webroot, the dbf & dbp files are there. However, looking in the Dev Server database, there are no Websecurity SQL tables.

Should I copy the tables from my laptop database to the Dev Server database?
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Re: WebSecurity SQL tables

Yes, you need to create the SQL tables on your Dev Server. Keep in mind, too, that the records that exist on your laptop installation won't be in a newly-created table on your Dev Server.

Thanks Steve. That's what I figured but didn't want to mess anything up without some confirmation from someone with lots of experience.

SQL Server 2008 security tables on same server as WAS. Data looks good.

TabbedUI Login Security work properly when published locally on development Win7 PC reaching out to the same SQL security tables.

Publish to WAS Server, I get "Login Information Incorrect."

Publishing is highly hit/miss, using either FTP or LAN publishing, but that is another topic.

        Here's the rub:

If I copy the ENTIRE PC folder to the WAS server, Web Security works, BUT ONLY UNTIL THE NEXT PUBLISH OF ANY COMPONENT! Thereafter login fails.

          Solved ....

I had placed the Web Security files in a different database with its own connection string.

Worked properly when local, but failed when published.

See attached images. Note how part of AA found the files, and the utility did not.

Once I moved the WebSecurity SQL files to the same database, all seems to work properly.

            Carl,

Web security tables can have a different connection string in a different database. I have a client set up like that. One site but 5 or so different db's. The key is that the local dbp files point to the correct location. Follow the instructions here and all should work:

I had a different connection string, but obviously some link in the chain was missing.

For now, one DB for both data and security is OK, but THANKS for letting me know that central WebSec tables is workable.

I'll sleep better knowing that, even though it might be a year or two before that dog bites me.
