Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

EMAIL_SEND() works on interactive code editor, but not on my site

I am attempting to use the EMAIL_SEND() function, however it does not appear to work on a web page. For testing purposes, I am attempting to have this function execute during onLogin on my Login component.

    Code:
    EMAIL_SEND("[email protected]", "test", "test")
I know that onLogin is working properly because I have other code executing there, and I also tried this function in the interactive code editor and it worked, but I cannot get it to execute on my published we page. Is there any reason why this would be happening?

On a side note, I encountered a similar problem with ui_msg_box() executing correctly in the interactive code editor but not on a published website. Could these issues be linked?

    Could these issues be linked?
    probably, no.
1> email: to send email you need to set email settings in the server. in the bottom in the task tray right click on the alpha server and configure the email then it should work, if it works on local development machine.
2>ui_msg_box(): this is a desktop side function, it will work in interactive window. you need to send javascript code to browser to see it work in the web side.

Re: EMAIL_SEND() works on interactive code editor, but not on my site

When you say "task tray", are you referring to the tabs at the bottom of Alpha Anywhere, where Control Panel and Web Projects Control Panel are? If so, I do not see alpha server listed there or anything else that I can right click in order to configure the email. I have however entered my email information into the Default profile found in View > Settings > System > Email. This allowed me to test the email function in the interactive window, is it also what needs to be configured to get my published site working? Or is there another area that I need to configure my email? Thank you for the help.

Ah, I did not realize you meant the Windows task tray. Even after starting the Application Server in AA, I do not have an alpha server icon in my task tray.

Did you expand the tray to see all of the objects?

So you are developing and serving web pages from the same machine?

Or is there another machine that is the webserver?

The email settings are stored in the computer's windows registry for the user that is running the server.

So either do what Govindan suggested (preferred) or use some code that will read your settings from your windows registry and then move that data to the server and put it in the server's registry.

Finally got it. I was able to remote in to my hosted server and could access the alpha server from there, configure my email, and now it works! Thank you for everyone's help.
