Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Edit-Combo icon

    For Edit-Combo field, I need the dropdown icon (arrow pointing downwards) for most of the UX fields, but under certain circumstance wish to hide (remove) that icon dynamically, based on some other data. How to remove it?

    OR

    If the list does not return any data [using XbasicFunction] - I wish to remove that dropdown icon as well using code.
    Thanks.

    Re: Edit-Combo icon

    ( JPMPA, thanks for helping with my question. quid pro quo? )

    I have not done this in a UX, yet. But I think what I do in Grids will also work in UX's. In the control properties, take a look under "Client side properties" at the "Conditional style, class, text ..." property. Setup two conditions: 1) one for hiding the icon, and 2) one for unhiding the icon.

    Instead of specifying a style attribute, specify a JavaScript function to call. The JS function will take one parameter - a pointer to the control. Define this function somewhere. It will need to compute the DOM ID of the icon/dropdown, unless you can find some built-in functions in Alpha JS library to compute this based on the passed in 'ele' pointer to the Textbox control. Once you get the ID of the icon, you can create a pointer to it and manipulate it's style attributes. Example:

    1) In a grid/ux setup conditional style expressions (make sure to have at least two conditions - one for showing and one for hiding) and make up a JS function for each, like "EnableInputCtl" and "DisableInputCtl".
    2) Define the "DisableInputCtl" something like this:
    Code:
    function DisableInputCtl( ele )
    {
    	if( !ele ) { return; }
    	var id = ele.id;
    	ele.readOnly = true;
    	ele.tabIndex = "-1";
    	ele.style.backgroundColor = "#e0dacc";
    	var idc = id + ".CONTAINER";
    	var cntnr = $(idc);
    	if( cntnr ) {
    //		cntnr.style.visibility="visible";
    		cntnr.style.display = "";
    	}
    	var idb = id + ".BUTTON";
    	var btn = $(idb);
    	if( btn ) {
    		btn.style.display="none";
    	}
    }
    Notice the two lines of code that calculate the container id and button id:
    var idc = id + ".CONTAINER";
    var idb = id + ".BUTTON";
    You will need to see if this is they way Alpha formulates these IDs for controls on a UX.

    You will also need to adjust the various ".style" attributes to what you want. What every attributes you change in the function, make sure its matching function undoes the changes. I actually do a 3-way style with three functions: 1) Enable, 2) Disable, 3) Hidden. So, what you see above is not really the full amount of code that I use, but it is very close.

        Re: Edit-Combo icon

        Thanks it worked. I kept just enough code to hide the drop down icon/button, whenever the condition to hide it is true.

        function NoLOVInputCtl( ele )
        {
        if( !ele ) { return; }
        var id = ele.id;
        var idb = id + ".BUTTON";
        var btn = $(idb);
        if( btn ) {
        btn.style.display="none";
        }
        }

          This is a nice snippet of just what I was looking for.

          How could it be used to hide the dropdown button of a control in a repeating section?
