Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    problems printing in v12

    Hi everyone

I am migrating my application to alpha anywhere 3.0 and when I try and produce a report from a button that worked in v11 and 10.5 I get the following message

Report did not print. Error reported was:
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\1\tmp3030.pdf at line: 165

Has anybody else come across this ?

    thanks

    john

    Re: problems printing in v12

The temp file location suggests this is an earlier build of Alpha Anywhere. The last release builds use a different file location and include a change to prevent the error. You should first update to the latest release build and retry

What build number are you referring here?
I have build 2442 - 4362 and got the same error as John. See image...

Same problem here. Updated to the last official release.
          Checked, rebooted server.

Is there anything we can check/change?

I have just noticed after re-importing all the reports into V12 that none of them appear to have any security settings on them, I don't know if this is related to the problem ?

              Re: problems printing in v12

Jerry I am having an issue with the Build 2128_4292 (APR-29-2014) and reports.
Report did not print. Error reported was:

              Layout name: C:\a5v12\A5Webroot\lt_NewValidInvoice.a5rpt
              Layout type: report
The system cannot find the file specified. .ALB

is what comes up in the print window instead of the PDF. however it works locally as expected. Any insight you could give would be much appreciated...
so far I have tried many things but did not want to report this as a bug if it is not. Reports were working fine until I upgraded and rolled back as my license expired aug 29th and I wasn't eligible for the latest upgrade.

                Re: problems printing in v12

I have posted in numerous places regarding my report problems in the past week. I just did the re-install of the FULL DL of the 2128_4292 and reports are working now. SO it appears that if you install the 2442_4362 and roll back you may lose reporting in a web application. At least I did...

                  Re: problems printing in v12

The printing code has not changed in a number of builds, so updating from the last release (2399) to the current release (2442) should not have changed any report behavior. We have not been able to repeat any of the problems in this thread, and no bugs reports have been received concerning any reporting problems.

However, the next pre-release will have a change that should prevent the "file in use" error..

As for the "The system cannot find the file specified. .ALB" error, we would need a repeatable case to determine what is happening.

Could you log in to my machine via team viewer? The problem went away and resurfaced. So this is repeatable every time here. I would be willing to pay you for your time.

                      Guys,

We installed the last official release, the FULL package (not the upgrade patch) and it is working.
The error mentioned by John on the first post was solved.

We will do more tests tomorrow.

                      Tks

                        Re: problems printing in v12

OK, seems like we are good now. The full reinstall of the 2128 4292 did indeed fix the problem. I forgot to fix an argument after amending the report and I mistakenly thought the problem was back and repeatable.

I would also like to say that the latter was fixed because jerrybrightbill took the time to PM and tell me to turn on the xbasic error logging. I looked at the log and saw that invoice_id was ambiguous, so in short Jerry really helped me out with his advice!
                        Thanks!
Now, about that beer I owe you...or whatever you tell me!

Well, I don't know Jerry personally but I must say he is an awesome person and always willing to help providing great support and suggestions to make our applications simple better.

                          Thanks Jerry!!!

The problem you are experiencing is a bug, which have been fixed in the next pre-release and release builds.
